at the time when I booked holiday I was arranging carer to look after husband for me or family.... right over the last 6 months my whole life has been turn upside down.....
My husband had a brain tumour drained last summer, we thought he would be ok, but after his scan at Christmas we have now found out the tumour has come back bigger and more fierce.....

what do I do about the holiday will I be able to claim the money back due to my husband surgery or do I just lose the whole holiday,,,, help help

You need to check with your travel insurers. Were they aware of your husband's condition when you took over the cover?

I am sorry to hear of your situation and hope you can sort it out satisfactorily.
  • I did not tell travel insurers any thing about my husband health condition because he was not going on the holiday with me and the 2 children.....

  • oh dear im in a right pickle now,,,,, when I book the holiday I had no idea he would need more surgery,,,,, and when I took out travel insures they never ask if a family member (who is not going on the holiday would need to have surgery)

In fairness to you, very few insurers will even consider pre-existing conditions for non-travelling people.

As has been said, the condition pre-exists the inception of the insurance and he had ongoing treatments with it and so almost certainly any claim is going to be declined.

Obviously the travel company owes you nothing but very occasionally they may allow you to delay a holiday as a guesture of goodwill but typically it is when there is more notice and so realistically they can resell your seat etc

you might be able to change your travel dates to later in the year for a fee
    who is the tour operator?

tell me if im wrong but it sound like you mean no one would insure me if my husband has a long term illness(but he was not travelling on the holiday.....
Im worried to let the travel insurers know just in case the surgery date gets cancelled....
but then im worried and do I leave it until the day of surgery( there is a slim chance he might die in surgery.......
my head is spinning as I don't really know what to do....sorry if im being a pain.... family are not helping me at the minute, they are just being blunt saying I don't need a break or time out... but they would say that because its not them careing for someone 24/7

    In plain english

the reason you cant go on holiday is because of your husband.

If you had told the insurance company at the time of taking it out they may have covered cancellation due to husbands pre existing condition although that is very unlikely.

In other words you wont be covered for cancellation due to husbands condition.

Your best bet is to see if the tour operator will change the date.

    Hope that makes sense

It does sound like you need a break
  • ok thank you everyone for all your help x
