Rear Windscreen Demister (Help)

Ok, so everytime I post on this forum its to do with wanting help and advise. as opposed to giving help and advise..... But hope peoples experiences can help with their advise :)

I've purchased a Honda Civic S-Type this gone Sunday from Car Giant.

All went smoothly, they tried to sell me some extra products but I politely declined and carried on from there.

Now, I have a problem (as im sure you have seen from the topic already). The rear demister is not working. At first I just thought it was climate control taking care of it. however, when the car was Frosty yesterday morning....it didnt clear whereas the front windscreen started to clear.

so I asked the missus to keep an eye out and she confirmed that it was still misting up.

I called C.G and they can take it in for repair tomorrow. However, they cant give me a loan / courtesy car on such short notice. And I need a car for missus doing school run etc etc. the wait for a Courtesy car from CG is 3 weeks. but check this..... you pay £25 for insurance and the excess is £1000 should anything happen to the car while its in our possession! 1k??!!! that just puts unecessary pressure. I hired a car once and the excess was only 200 quid.

Anyway, so ive booked it in for 3 weeks time anyway.

My question is this: Does anyone know where I could get this repaired from? i asked my local garage (who does my MOT) however he doesnt do electrics and can't refer me to anyone who does. I spoke to Halfords and they pointed me to their auto centre.

Im based in Uxbridge so anyone Local who can point me in the right direction.... would be great.

Ive read up that I can check the Fuse and just have a quick look at the demister contact points to see if they have come lose or disconnected. I will be doing that this evening.

Advise is appreciated.

Cheers

They will probably also try and sell you CDW to remove the £1,000 excess for some silly money.

You could add their vehicle to your insurance as a temporary additional vehicle but if that is cheaper or not will depend on what admin fee your insurers charge.

You can probably alternatively buy independent CDW to remove the £1,000 excess.

Cant help with fixing the car

    Collision Damage Waiver.

Have you tried checking the fuse for the heated rear window?

CDW technically should be the company loaning/ hiring the car waiving the payment they want you to pay towards any repairs (£1k in this case).

In practice it is increasingly common for this to actually be an insurance instead of a simple waiver and just like GAP any many other minor classes of insurance, its cheaper if bought not from the company providing the vehicle.

Use a multimeter to check the connections where the wiring clips onto the tags on the glass. If you've got +12v across them (with the window switched on, obviously), then you need a new window. If not, and there's electrical contacts and spring-loaded pins in the tailgate shut somewhere, rather than a rubber conduit between body and tailgate, try cleaning those. Otherwise, it's an auto-electrician.

    erm....... completely lost! lol.

But I will see if our telephone engineer (where I work) can help me out with a Multi Meter - if he has one that is.

Nope. no warning lights at all.

The S-type has 1 button for mirrors and rear windscreen. press that, light on the button comes on...thats it.
