Many years ago I made batches of biscuits that I got from a porrige oats box. They were a nice chewy texture. I have tried a more recent recipe and they were nothing like the old faves.
Anyone have any ideas .......
Main ingrediants (from memory).....sugar, marg and syrup (melted) mix in oats four, ginger(?) other spice? and some flour , they were rolled into balls and squased on the tray were they spread in the oven.
Thought oit worth a try......as I have atin of syrup needing used and some oats......;-)

There are oatmeal biscuits in the recipe collection whose Index is in my signature. Go to The Old Style Recipe Collection, then to cakes and biscuits and there you'll find oatmeal. That reminds me. I must make some more of those yummy biscuits on Monday. They certainly didn't last very long.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Ingredients
75 g (3 oz) vegetable margarine, plus extra for greasing
75 g (3 oz) wholemeal flour, plus a little extra for dusting
½ tsp salt
50 g (2 oz) porridge oats
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
½ tsp ground mixed spice
50 g (2 oz) apple sauce (from a jar)
Preheat the oven to 190C, 375F or gas mark 5 (fan oven 170C from cold).
Grease two baking sheets and lightly dust them with some flour.
Sift the flour and salt into a bowl, tipping in any wholemeal flakes that are left in the sieve. Stir in the oats, bicarbonate of soda and mixed spice.
Cream the margarine in a separate large bowl and beat in the apple sauce, a little at a time until well combined. Beat in the oat mixture until well combined.
Place walnut-sized portions of the biscuit mixture on to the prepared baking sheets, leaving a 5 cm (2 in) space around each one and then slightly flatten each one with a fork. Bake for 15 minutes or until they begin to turn golden brown.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely on the baking sheets.0 -
