On my Claim Form it says that CEL's preferred court is Barnet Civil and Family Court Centre.

Now, I'm planning to fight this (the letters go off tomorrow - thanks, kirkbyinfurnesslad) and I'm hopeful that it will never get to court, but if it does will it necessarily be in Barnet, or do I (as the defendant) get to choose? I can't see anything in the paperwork where I can nominate a court.

You get to choose. :)

It happens later on which you would learn about if you read the links I give in the NEWBIES thread under 'small claims'.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Sorry, no - they called it a "charge". The exact wording of the email that I received was:
Thank you for contacting Steve Murrells regarding the correspondence you have received relating to a parking charge; he has requested that I respond on his behalf.

Firstly, may I apologise for any concern these have caused you, I do appreciate that this can be upsetting, and regret that you have received them as a consequence of using a car park at one of our Stores. Naturally, we are very concerned by the inconvenience and upset you have experienced and consequently, are now in the process of reviewing the management companies in place to deal with car parking at our stores. We would like to assure you that the questions and feedback you have raised will form part of this review.

Please be assured that I will make arrangements for this charge to be paid directly to the debt recovery agent who is acting on behalf of the Parking Management company not the Co-operative. In order to do this, I would be very grateful if you could send me your PCN number. Once this has been received I will be able to begin the process for you. This should take about 10 days to fully process and will ensure that the matter is resolved fully for you (including any court proceedings), however I would caution that they may send a further letter in the interim period, if this is the case please do let me know, and if I can be of any further assistance in relation to this matter, do not hesitate to get in touch.

We need to embarrass the Co-op CEO about this.

UPDATE: Latest reply from the Co-Op says:
Thank you for your reply. I have raised a cheque to pay this charge directly for you and am just waiting for it to be returned to me in the office. Once sent, this will finalise the case for you. I will also request that the car parking company contact you directly to confirm that the charge has been pay and closed.
Thank you for your patience and assistance in this matter.
Result!
