The OP was talking about taking to a service centre. I was not. So in this instance, no.

Really? where did the OP mention a service centre?

Yes I'm well aware of the hygroscopic properties of oil thanks. I was making a point that a car doesn't need to go to a service station, and that oil changes, spark plugs and so forth are easily done on the drive. Hence the "you can do it all yourself" portion of my previous post.

Between paying for a service, and doing it myself at a fraction of the cost, I know which I'd prefer.

Erm, the O/P never mentioned taking the car to a service station?

Hence why we queried your post?

I'm not going to have an argument because I stated my opinion in a thread - it's a touch ridiculous, wouldn't you agree?

You had a rant at two people on a thread because YOU misinterpreted the O/P?
  • Not one mention of doing Brake Fluid, gearbox levels, AF change, and god forbid the 10-12 th year service, are you changing the airbags on the drive too.

Just changing the plugs, air filter, oil filter isnt really a "service" more a partial one or engine service

The op really asked the difference between longlife and normal service.

A few manufacturers offer longlife or normal annual time/distance services, its your choice, this can be changed during its life too (normally when the car is in for its schedule service) so its not just Pugs that have this option.

Personally I am not a fan of longlife, I would much prefer the garage to service the car yearly, and change the oil/filter every 6mths.

Mine has to be MOT'd every year and I get it serviced at the same time, I rely on my car to earn my money no car and I will not be getting to work (public transport does not serve where I work). So I feel it is not only money well spent but essential money to spend to get someone who knows what they are looking at to look at it once a year.

MOT/service this year £400 including all fees, some parts (rear wiper blade pollen filter etc.) and 2 new tyres.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Obviously... but I assumed they were talking about a minor service. You speak of a major service.

No you speak of an engine service which is neither a minor or major service.

If you think a minor service is drop the oil and filter, job done then you are wrong

even doing a low mileage it's worth servicing routinely.

It is especially important to have your car serviced regularly if you're doing a low mileage. Carbon deposits in the sump build up quicker where a car is used only for short journeys, and the engine rarely gets up to its full operating temperature.

wife hadn't changed the oil in their motor in 4 years!

I pity the poor sod who buys it off her.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

That's not a question, no need for the question mark. You've done that three times now.

Even if you could correctly form a sentence, me having a 'rant', (which it wasn't, but I'll let you get away with it as the written word seems to trouble you) has little bearing on me also saying 'let's give it a rest'. Now the O/p seems to have a host of opinions on which to ruminate - let's give it a rest. Unless of course you wish to play 'thread policeman' some more.
