I think that it is clearly not particularly good value.

Ok, managed to get it down to £371.08 and more details. I am not a huge fan of refurbs in case there is something wrong with them - not being very technical, I wouldn't know what to do to fix.

    8 usb ports - six 2.0 and two 3.0
    i3 processor
    Wireless/bluetooth
    3.4 GHz
    8GB Ram
    1TB Hard drive
    DVD readable and rewritable
    Windows 8.1
    Inspiron 3000

That was a bit dopey now, wasn't it? :)
If there was something wrong with it, you would send it back.
Would you try to fix a new machine??
Both new and refurb have the same twelve month warranty.

Please read and digest before making comment. ;)

Never had a problem using W8.1 with a mouse and keyboard, even without anything like 'Classic Shell'. That said, it will be of no use to you if you are not prepared to do a bit of research and learn how it works.
As for a laptop....What's your ultimate budget and what are you going to use it for...Go and look at the Tesco outlet on ebay, there is usually a bargain or two to be had ....

Sorry to have irritated you today.
Hopefully next time I need help from Martin's forum on IT issues, you will have a day off. Please feel free to ignore any other requests for help that I may need.;)

I am on 8.1 updated in December from 8. No problems with cordless mouse and using keyboard, I am a trained typist and just cannot do touch screen.
  • Asda are selling a Medion Akoya Notebook, for £199.

I'm not irritated. I'm sitting on a beach typing this.

Just that your comment was a bit dopey. If you want to ignore sound advice, that will only add to the dopiness.
    Don't be that person.
Spend the extra if it makes you feel better.
I'm still using my 'refurb' laptop five years later, whilst you might note a current thread featuring a new Asus laptop that failed after six months....

Thanks donna. Like you I am a trained typist and cannot do touch screen. In the same vein I find it easier to type than to write these days after typing for so many years. Thats great i will get 8.1.
