OLD STYLE DAILY - Wednesday March 5th 2014

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 5th March 2014. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning xx
Hope this finds you well and happy xx

Up again with Molly Dog she needed her scooby snacks:eek::eek::eek: We have a new sleep pattern between us now that is hard to break out of. I think we are slowly getting an idea about her tummy trouble too!

Poor hubby has been very poorly for two weeks with a very bad chest infection - he has very bad asthma anyway. He has just started new antibiotics so is beginning to feel better. I have been very worried about him as his breathing has been very laboured at night and I have sat up prodding him and shoving him into better positions whilst he has been grumbling at me and cursing me - he states he cannot remember the rude names he called me. I can believe this as a child was once sick on him and he did not wake up. Yet it I fall at night he is awake and down like a shot! We have been muddling through - minimal of everything - DS2 has been an angel as he has been doing the driving :A

We had pancakes though yesterday and they were lovely. Got some batter for breakfast.

My thoughts are all with my OS friends as we plod along our respective journeys - hugs for a good day xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

  • Good morning Molly and everyone who crosses/follows :)

Sorry to hear about your hubby being ill and hope he is soon on the mend. Molly dog is a tinker and knows she has you at her beck and call!

No pancakes here due to low carb diet and I really wanted some as everyone was talking about them all day in work.

Need to redo budget for month as have some work expenses next week and will have to wait a while to claim them back. It's borrowing from endowment shortfall fund so at least the money is available.

Salmon with bean spouts for dinner.

Better get a move on so will leave with usual well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or wants them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Awake early. Maybe due to minimal activity yesterday, went to the hairdressers, then popped to the Drs. Nothing serious, but he has agreed to me trying to eliminate the BP tablets due to the constant low readings. I only take one low dose tablet, which is a BetaBlocker format, which they now think is not that good for reducing BP anyway he tells me.
Had Orange & Maple syrup pancakes at lunch, then F&C from the shop last night, was starving all day, think it is a reaction to the cold weather, but must start the last minute wedding diet by Monday, just to lose any lumps & bumps, 4 weeks on Saturday.
Today we have a dental check up, then tomorrow my Groupon £25, manicure, pedicure, back massage & facial. Did get a load of darks done and out on the Lin yesterday, and have some towels for today.
Will nip to Aldi sometime today, so I can make a real dinner tonight.
Sorry to hear about DH Molly, hope he gets well soon.
((Hugs)), Spoons, etc., all round, take care everyone. DG

Good morning all, a beautiful day here in the Garden of England. The sun is up, and I can see it shining across the River Medway from my window as I sit typing.:):) Makes you feel so much better when it shines doesn't it. I saw some gorgeous crocus' yesterday a sure sign that spring is on its way and the dark days of winter hopefully are past for another year.I have a couple of sparrows nesting in the eves of my house and boy are they noisey little devils in the morning. The Dad starting flapping about, almost as soon as its light, whereas the Mum just perches looking rather smug (I love watching nesting birds and imagining what they are doing. They are so like humans at times and when they are nesting you can see how protective the Dad is about his OH :):):)
A couple of years ago I had some nesting blackbirds in the garden and the Dad would tap on my window in the morning, and I would throw some stuff out for him to feed his OH and then the babies with. This year I have sparrows I haven't seen any blackbirds yet at all.
I also saw some almond blossom yesterday I love the beautiful shade on the trees in the spring and only wish I could paint on paper what I see with my eyes.My late Mum always said in the springtime look up and you will be suprised at what you see. I always do, and just to see the trees starting to come into leaf is such a tonic and pick-me-up (and its free as well ,very OS :):):))
Well today its off to DDs then walk the dog around the local park, and the school run, then I have a quieter day today so will be pottering around.I may make a Victoria sponge cake for my DGS as they love a suprise cake mid-week when they get home from school and I have a less busy day today.

We came fifth again in the pub quiz last night ,but had a geat deal of fun though.
I hope everyone has a good day and the sun is shining down on where ever you are.
    Take care all

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, very cold and frosty but sun shining. Supposed to be getting warmer and temperature up to 8-9 degrees today – we’ll see!

DH up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, pancakes for everyone with their choice of topping. Remembered to get the lamb out of the freezer to defrost, went to put it all in the slow cooker a few minutes ago and it’s still frozen in the middle – so have left it out and hopefully it’ll defrost this morning whilst I’m at work and then I’ll put it in once I get home this afternoon – if I get it in the slow cooker by 2pm it should cook nicely and be ready to eat at around 6-7pm. I’ll prep some potatoes and veg to have with it.

Work yesterday was another strange day – either really busy or dead – lots of people visiting with council tax queries – as it’s the end of the council tax year on 31 March – they are chasing hard for any unpaid monies – hence all our enquiries. I’m only working until lunchtime today then will come home and get going with the chores I do on a Wednesday afternoon. Have a report to do for DH – this is now a priority and must be done tonight and then printed out ready for Saturday.

On a sad note, a local man went missing at the end of January and the authorities were searching everywhere for several days but found no trace of him. A body has been recovered from the river that runs through our town on Monday evening – they haven’t said it’s definitely him but the Authorities that were looking for him are the one’s that recovered the body – so everyone’s expecting the worst. Such a waste and so hard for family and friends. He wasn’t much older than me and DH.

    Keep safe and well x

Light here but damp again. Yesterday was the same but turned out lovely. Will leave some washing for DD to peg outside if the weather is ok.
Gave the shelves another coat of primer last night - will give them an undercoat tonight. Slow progress but getting there all the same.
Builder didn't come yesterday but should be here today - he fits us in where he can (and takes a reduced rate!) He is one of lifes good guys!
Had lo curry last night, salmon and veggies tonight. Off to the Science Centre today with school, hope they behave - quite a difficult class.
Molly - Hope DH recovers soon. Hope you are feeling better too.
    Take care. XX
  • Good Morning all.
Beautiful start to the day here..sun is shining and although i had to hold the padlocks on the school gates to defrost them to open them i am finding the brighter mornings a godsend. Even though i had hardly any sleep last night (dh wanted to talk just before bed so i laid there mulling things over all night)
Never did get those hobnobs made yesterday so might have a go today if i can find a spare min.
Today i must take dd passport form to the post office for her and get it checked and sent off if i do nothing else all day that is important.
Dinner today will be ??? (forgot to get meat out of freezer last night so will be pot luck)
Still feeling a bit low but you just have to plod on dont you.
Anyhoo better get some work done (or at least look busy lol)
    Hugs to all in need

    Hi everyone,

Great news for DD sistercas, it's such a tough field to get into.

Molly, sorry to hear about DH, hope he gets well soon.

JO, we are doing a quiz on Friday, not a regular one, just twice a year, but we love it. We usually win!

I'm going to make macaroni cheese for dinner tonight, it's something I've never made before so I must search for a recipe - I think I'll jazz it up with ham and tomatoes otherwise it seems so bland, probably why I've never been tempted to try it.

Apart from that it's the same old things today - a bit of housework a bit of sewing, a bit of cooking, with maybe a walk thrown in.

    Morning Everyone!!

It's not quite as bright or frosty as it was here yesterday, but it's currently still dry :j

Tonight we are nipping out to our local town as there are events on so preped as much of tea as possible this morning before work, we are having chili and jacket potatoes, plus there will be 2 portions to freeze (first time batch baking and freezing).
