Childcare Grant

Hi all,
My husband is looking at starting Uni in September and we are trying to work out whether we can afford this with the childcare fees we would incur.
Does anyone know how it is calculated? There seems to be an air of mystery surrounding how it is worked out and without this information, we don't know whether he can go or not.
Also, from the limited information I have been able to glean from various sources, it isn't clear if it is just assessed on the student finance income (so the previous year's income) or if it is repeatedly assessed year on year?
Any help anyone can give would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks.

You have to reapply for all finance every year.
when applying in the first year, they base it in your previous years income, as that is a known figure to work from and very few people have a dramatic change in income from one year to the next. However Once your finance amount is confirmed, you can then amend your income details, based on your projected income for the coming year.
Student finance paperwork is aimed at 18yr olds with no income. Not adults, who are most likely coming out of paid employment, to go back to study.0 -
Thanks Flea,
Any idea how the mysterious childcare grant is figured out?One day, i will be a genius. One day, they will perfect brain transplantation.0 -
Hi I'm in receipt of the childcare grant. Do you mean how do they work out how much you can have? X0

Yeah, how do they work that out? do they just go off the student finance income assessment? One day, i will be a genius. One day, they will perfect brain transplantation.0

They don't. If you can wait until Monday, I'll upload my old calculations spreadsheet for it. Some of the figures would need updating, as I left in 2010, but it would give you the principles of how to work it out. It'll probably make more sense than me typing it out at nearly 3am also!0

OP
are you aware that your husband. as a full time student, may be disregarded as a resident for council tax purposes?
Check with your council for more details - it may mean a 25% cut in your CT bill.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
