Help re Waitrose car park ticket please

Hi there, I often park in Waitrose car park, do my food shopping there and then do any other things around the town. The car park is free but has the return within 2 hours sign. I was always told that if you return later and get a ticket it is not enforcable because it's on private land. I have had about 3 over 10 years and they have never been followed up on. The car park is maintained by Brittania. The last time I had a ticket I ignored it again but have received a letter this time saying please do not ignore, that I owe them £50 as I didn't pay the £25 fee they initially asked for. The notice states that they have contacted the DVLA and got my details and a lot more stuff. Do I have to pay this charge or as it's private land can I ignore it? Any advice gratefully received, thank you

No don't ignore as you got a chance to get this cancelled by appealing, if you go to this thread you can learn about this scam, and see wording that you can use for the first stage appeal, if they reject you can go popla which is the second stage. That means you get this won with 2 emails.
You could ignore the whole process as these do not issue small claims, but don't take the risk for the next 6 years wondering if they will change the way they operate, my advice is to appeal, and complain to the retailers. When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

Thank you Stroma, very kind. Does what you have said apply though if I exceeded the time limit? In that sense it wasn't unfair so I wasn't sure if I could do anything about it.0

Hi
Yes it still applies - read the NEWBIES thread - follow the advice and draft an appeal as the keeper. Phrase it in the third person referring only to "the driver" or the person in charge of the vehicle that day.
Take a look at the template letter and you'll see what's needed.0 -

You will beat this easily following the linked thread attached in Stroma's reply. Newbies can win at POPLA simply by following the appeals info (use the template) and then read the 'How to win at POPLA' link in the thread, like this newbie did:

It's not about the circumstances.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

Thanks so much all of you xxxxxxxxxxxxx0

Hi, very many thanks for all the help I had previously re a Brittania ticket on private land. I sent the stock letter rejecting it and have now received a final reminder do not ignore. Just checking, do I ignore this or send a repeat of the same letter please? Very many thanks in advance, great section of the forum this x0

You should have posted there instead of a new thread. Did you post the letter with proof of postage?

As you've sent in your appeal just ignore and wait for your response to that.
as long as the answer to Stroma's question is yes you did get proof of posting of your appeal.0 -
Hi I've copied this to your original thread and responded there.
Best to keep to one thread then anyone responding has the full history.0 -
Hi, sorry I hunted but couldn't find the post. Thanks for moving it. I didn't send it, I emailed it as suggested. I got an auto response email saying they'd received it but nothing else.0
