Just been called on my mobile by 02033756307 and they knew my name

I just picked up a call by the number 0203 375 6307 and they asked for me (by my first name). It was a young woman with a Mancunian accent. She said she was recording the call and then asked me if I had taken out a loan before 2009 and when I said "no" she asked if I had bought a car on finance before 2009. When I said "no" she hung up. I think she said she was from some payment protection insurance company.
I know it is a scam but I am quite concerned about how they got my name. I always opt out of third party sharing of details.
I googled the number and apparently they call a lot of people with nuisance calls.
Does anyone know if they can do anything with my details as if they have my first name I am wondering what other information they have about me and what they can do with it (and who gave them my details)?

I believe some mobile phone companies do sell on customers details.0

Not a PPI company, a claim back your PPI company
Very easy to get names and telephone numbers if you have little morals. How do you answer your phone?0 -

They are just scammers ringing randon numbers, I would not worry about it.0 -
If a cold caller states they are "recording the call" insist that they do not have your consent to do so and should not have started recording until they had obtained it, ask them for a full head office address and make a complaint to the communications ombudsman .Be happy...;)0

Or, say, "Please yourself, Goodbye." and ring off!0 -
Or even better add number to reject call list.

HI...I too, received a call from these people.... the guy on the phone talked very quickly and I could not grasp all what he was saying and he kept on asking for my info and I refused saying I do not give out any personal details over the phone and if you want any info about me I suggest you put it in writing... when I asked where he got my number he said 'oh we buy them in block'!!!!! I put the phone down on him after that reply!0

If I don't recognise the caller then I rarely answer-mob or house.0 -
Or even better, just repeat a random, garbage, phrase to them.
I find that saying "Penis 8" over and over again so you sound like a retard works very well, but your mileage may vary

I've been known to answer particularly persistent callers in Welsh, most recently TNS global doing a 'survey'. TPS was no use as they're not selling anything; we're ex-directory, so TNS must have got our number as a result of a random dial system. 15 times they rang us before I cracked and answered. With the words from this song, which I was taught at school:

It certainly confused them a bit before they hung up.
Since then I've realised our phone provider offers 'Choose to refuse' (I'd thought only BT did this, but that's not the case). It was a bit of hassle getting the service added, but its worth doing, as now when TNS ring me up, they get an engaged tone. They can ring as often as they like now, it's not bothering me a bit.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0
