The truth is probably that, owing to constant political tinkering, many public sector workers have to re-apply for their jobs every couple of years or so, in the context of re-structuring. This means that paperwork falls between the gaps or gets lost as people and teams get moved around, which often includes moves between different locations. The physical moving of files etc is contracted out to the private sector. In one of my moves, I labelled all the stuff on my desk and filing cabinets clearly as instructed, and the whole lot went missing, due to the private sector company that moved it.

while this could be the case in some circumstances, I can't see that it was in the OPs case, who left the public service some years ago, and they denied at first that she ever had a pension with them. Which she clearly did as she had her statement she got after leaving.

What if she had misplaced this paper? What if she had suffered a flood or house fire and paperwork was destroyed? Would she have gotten her pension if she hadn't been able to prove it? That was my worry about the incompetence of the PS worker who informed her she had no entitlement.

There was no anti public service bile about people getting the pensions they had earned

No of course not, hence these very kind words.....

    For me, yes.
Blimey no. I thrive in the private sector and am pretty sure I would "go postal" very quickly in the public sector. I hate unproductive meetings, endless bureaucracy, mountains of paperwork and (as a Yorkshireman) find wasting money soul destroying even if it's not my money.

The public sector might be a gravy train but that simply isn't my kind of gravy.

    are not a condescending rant....
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

That to me was at how badly run some of our public service is (and I see truth there). Are you in denial about this?

I don't see that as bile about those who have earned themselves a public service pension.

The people who told her that are Capita, a private sector company who have the contract to administer Civil Service pensions

maybe it should be taken into acct during their 'performance review'?

At least they are outsourcing, as we aren't paying the Capita employees pension.

To all of you who at the beginning of this thread who were kind enough to offer me help... I just wanted to let you know that I received an email from mycsp today saying i was on 'penserver' but that DWP HR had not sent the form EF430 on my resignation. Mycsp will contact them and once the necessary form has been submitted I will be posted details of my preserved entitlement. This is a huge weight off my shoulders and to those of you who were there for me, a sincere thank you.

    Great news :)

Your original post has led to a very interesting, if severely off topic, discussion.
