ASDA Southern Comfort: NOT!

Hi again, folks.

Just to let you know how this panned out.

Friend came to see me Friday evening and I asked her to try the Southern Comfort. She took a small sip and then verified what I had experienced. She said it was nothing like the SC that she had drunk in the past and there was a strong taste, and smell, of raw alcohol.

She took it back to Asda yesterday. The Customer Services Advisor took off the lid and had a sniff. "That does not smell anything like Southern Comfort", she said, "and I drink Southern Comfort myself".

So that was it. Money refunded; no problem. (More sloe gin!)

Still curious as to what went wrong though??

Just a stab in the dark here but I reckon its from a bad batch but would have expected to see or hear something about a bad batch like you get with product recalls.

I suspected a bad batch but if no one else complains then it must be just a "one-off". If Asda had not taken it back we would have taken it to trading standards. I had bad dreams just drinking the neck of the bottle. Anyone daft enough to drink the bottle would have been very ill indeed, or worse. It was not something you could just lightly dismiss.

The good news is I went to the local Wetherspoons on Thursday for curry night and out of curiosity had a Southern Comfort, with ice. It was bliss. Just like the old days.
