Unless your friend bought it from a '' corner shop'' and its a knock off .....Its not impossible for a major supermarket to have been unwitting recipients to knock off booze
trading standards?Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Many drinks are made or bottled under license as its not cost effective to ship the finished product around the world. Even if they are then there can be different versions to suit local tastes. Chivas Regal whiskey is massively popular outside the UK and whilst it is all made here they use a different blend for the export market than for what they sell here.
Looking at the Tesco website it gives the country of origin as USA for the original or Ireland for the Lime so seems to be variable.
Of cause it could be that they've changed the recipe, could be your tastes have changed, could be rose tinted glasses about the past, could be the prior one was an import as the US does have multiple versions etc
At 35% by volume of alcohol it will smell and taste fairly strongly of alcohol but that would be true of any whiskey, rum, gin etc which are normally in the 35-45% ranges
If you like Gordons Sloe Gin then try Sipsmiths0 -

Thanks for useful information. It is a long time since I drank Southern Comfort so the recipe may well have changed. I usually drink wine at about 12% volume so maybe the 35% was a huge shock to the system. I will certainly check out Sipsmiths.
Shegirl! The New Orleans Original is above so seems to be a regular Southern Comfort.
I raise my hat to anyone who can drink this stuff.0 -

I drink.... ok pretty much whatever is put in front of me.... but even with that I dont like anything neat above 30% unless its freezer cold and then thats mainly because you cant taste it anymore.
Not a fan of southern comfort but can drink it just fine. Wouldnt even consider drinking it neat though and would mix it with diet coke or use it as part of a cocktail.0 -

Maybe that was my mistake. I drank it neat. Usually I drown everything in lemonade.. Wont make that mistake again.
If this is the "original recipe" as it says on the bottle, then I must have drunk the same stuff in the 70's without giving it a second thought.
Those were the days.0 -

Try it with lemonade and lime and plenty of ice, it's delicious.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Looking at the ASDA website, the 1L bottles are manufactured in the States, the smaller bottles are manufactured in Ireland. Could be a different recipe, or indeed some counterfeit stock could have found its way into ASDA's supply chain.0

I would get the bottle checked for Methanol content."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
