Switch to new broadband

My 12 month contract with my broadband provider expired about a month ago. As a result I am currently on a rollling monthly contract.

What do I need from my current broadband provider if I want to switch to a different provider?

Thanks.

You would probably need a Migration Authorisation Code.

It looks like my broadband has been cancelled. Would I still need a Migration Authorisation Code from my provider, before moving to a new provider?

With the previous provider I had broadband and phoneline with them. Will I need to pay a new provider to have a phoneline connected with them (I still have a physical phone line in my flat)?

    Thanks

Its a bit late now, you will probably be liable to a termination charge because you just cancelled without a MAC.

I recently cancelled my virgin broadband but kept the phone line, but now wish to move to sky and have talk, broadband and tv, today my wife got an automated call saying someone had requested to take over the line, I assume sky, and to press 1 to talk to someone or we would be liable for hefty charges does anyone have a similar experience

If it was VM cable, then that line is no good for any ADSL or FTTC service. You will need a BT-based line installing or reconnecting, which Sky can arrange.
VM network is entirely separate from BT.
