Tesco & Hudl Repair

I purchased a Hudl from tescos before christmas for my son, I didn't purchase the drops and spills insurance, my son unfortunately has dropped it and cracked the screen, I have been into tesco to inquire about getting it repaired, I have been told that as I haven't purchased the insurance they cant repair it!!!!:mad: if I had the insurance they would repair it. I am willing to pay for the repair but they wont due to not having the drops and spills. is this legal?

I also cant understand how an organisation the size of tescos dont put a repair service in place when launching such a product.:(

Yes, of course it is legal for them to not offer a repair service.

Sticking hudl repair service into google will find many repairers of which this is just one:

Are you sure you didn't get a 'drops & spills', I got it free when I bought mine in December. Not that I have the Hudl anymore.

It was free on a few tablets on and off from around September because DH had it included with his Galaxy Tab.
From memory though you had to register it online so I'm guessing OP would have realised if they had it, or if they did and didn't register it then it's probably not covered now.
  • Still no sign of screen replacements for these but PC Express in Sale offer a USB replacement socket for £29 fitted. Tel. 0161 291 1044.
Or you can get replacement HUDL's currently on ebay (via Tesco) for £69. If you want your screen transferring to your old device so you can keep your data, the above company will switch the screen for free if you pat ex your old part for spares. Hope that helps.

If its out of warranty ease the back off and unplug the battery and wait wait 10 min and re-plug in it - see Google on how to do it. Otherwise a local competent repairer will do it.

He's probably either resolved it or given up during the 8 months since posting :).
  • I bought my daughter a hudl2 25 days ago, along with a pack of screen protectors and what they call a soft shell case. (All tesco hudl products bought in the store) Yesterday my daughter decided to peel off the screen protector..... Aaarrrggh! So I remove the dirty protector, and decide that I need access to the screen, I would have to remove it from the soft shell case. I did not use any force, but the screen now has a massive crack right across it! I know the crack was not on the screen prior to me removing as I had already cleaned the screen whilst in the case.
I took it to my local Superstore, and as it was after 8pm they could not do anything, as they would have to ring the electrical helpline. I rang them this morning, to a chap who didn't sound like he didn't have a clue at all ( sounded like he had just come out of school), and went offline to consult with his tech advisor, and came back saying this was not under warranty as it was accidental damage. I explained that I should be able to remove the tablet from the case without it breaking and surely this was a product fault. He wasn't having any of it, and said that they could repair the screen for £59. Now saying that I had only bought it 25 days ago for £99, I personally think it is ridiculous to pay this.

What are my rights. It is evident that it has not been dropped, I am anul with my daughter about looking after it, and am so frustrated this has happened, and tescos reaction.

Some please help me, surely I have consumer rights on this??

    Thanks
