It made me smile when I read it.
I had a bowl of rice crispies and milk the day after my surgery. I think you just need to eat slowly and it does seem to heal quickly.
Good luck.0 -
I had mine out in my 20s, I don't remember much other than they made me eat before they'd release me. Recovery should have been quick but I go and infection so it was rather painful for around 2 weeks. Icecream helped though

I had mine out at the age of 20 after repeated tonsilitis. They had got to the state that they were enlarged and with holes in them so no good to me. As it was 41 years ago, I can't remember much about the recovery time, but I do know that it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. The good thing is that I've never had a sore throat since.0

My 3 year old had his removed last year the advice was to eat and drink normally- not soft food but proper crunchy food as otherwise you can bleed from the wound site when the scabs come off. Keep on top of the pain relief- we were giving paracetamol and ibuprofen full doses for about a week, and were given to understand it gets worse for about ten days before starting to improve. As an adult you can at least rationalise it and do what you know is good for you even if it hurts. Take pain relief half an hour before food.0

i am due to have surgery to remove my tonsils in may - i cant find anyone who has had this surgery as an adult so i was looking for some tips on what to expect and how to make recovery as easy and as fast as possible
I know someone who had hers out in her 30s after constant bouts of tonsillitis, she said it was painful but got over it quite quickly. One thing to ask is that it hasn't stopped her tonsillitis as she has had two bouts since in the 'tonsil beds' although it's not one bout after another like before the OP, l thought once they were out that's it.

My partner had his out in early 20s due to continuous problems with them and said it was the worst pain he has ever felt, although the surgeon said his were the worst tonsils he had ever seen and asked for permission to have them sent for medical research!
He was a right moany @rse for about a week, he was given a spray to squirt into the holes where the tonsils were and lots and lots of painkillers.
Prepare for the worst and if its not too bad for you then thats a bonus!

Ok…. the honest truth……
Like having a razor in your throat. Absolutely agonising and took me longer to recover. BUT - never having tonsillitis or living with the dread of it was one of the best things I have ever done.
My tips - keep eating and drinking as it sluffs away the yuk.
Keep on top of your pain relief.
Dont overdo it.
Remember the pain is worth the gain.
Take the risk of infection seriously as my lad had a bleed after his as he had caught an infection. Again though best thing we ever did!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Stock up on painkillers & box sets. (Escapist fantasy strongly recommended - and if that's Jane Austen, The West Wing or Game of Thrones - no judgement & no argument - you need plenty to keep you intrigued & out of reality. If someone else wants the news, Xbox or whatever, borrow the doings!)
Use any gadgets to track & remind you of painkillers.
If the painkillers aren't holding it, get to the GP sharpish as (a) it may be an infection & (b) prescription painkillers pack more of a wallop.
If you can borrow a 3 litre pump thermos of the sort they have at conferences, you can make your own hot drinks with less shambling around. Getting the fluids down you is a Good Thing!
Best of luck!0 -
