Homeplug for Smart TV

We have just got a SmartTV for the spare room. Being at the other end of a bungalow to the router, the wi-fi signal is not suffcient to watch catch up TV.

I have a couple of net-x Homeplug AV 200Mbps converters, which we had had for a while but not used. Are these fast enough for the purpose?

If so can anyone help with why I may be having problems with them connecting?

Thanks
DG

Test them with a computer. Do all the lights come on?

Those Homeplugs should be fine for the job you require.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You may need long arms, so to speak, plug one near your router and connect the ethernet cable to a spare socket on the router , one next to your PC (turn off the wireless on the PC first) and connect via ethernet to the PC then press the reset button on each plug (usually within about 30 secs) they should then pair up

I assume you have a computer close to the wifi router? And presumably plugged in via ethernet cable rather than on wifi?

If so, I suggest a diagnostic step.
Plug BOTH homeplugs into a socket near the computer and wifi (you can use an extension strip for this, but don't use one with any fancy surge protection or similar)
Then unplug the ethernet cable between the computer and router, and connect the router direct to one homeplug. With another cable connect the other homeplug to the computer.
Then set up the homeplugs as per debitcardmayhem's instructions (but much easier because in same room)
Now check if your computer can 'see' the internet connection (open any webpage).
If it can, then the homeplugs are fine, and either they weren't properly setup originally, or the household wiring between router and TV may be the problem.
If it cannot then the homeplugs are at fault/not correctly set up.

If you CAN get the homeplugs working in this setup, move them to the intended positions, but do NOT repeat the setup procedure: they should remember the settings/pairing you just did, and should re-connect
If they do not connect now, your household wiring is the likely issue. Not easy to solve/resolve.

OK, but it is still worth trying them side by side to exclude the distant wiring issue.
I did this with my old TP-Link ones. Turns out one of the plugs was dud, even though the lights flashed. Replaced it and all is fine

Are you sure there is not a tiny reset button on the bottom near the cable socket? , the ones I saw (albeit 3-ish years ago) had them

Edited just looked at the ad can't see one on there ..... sorry

No unfortunately, not, I thought it was odd, but have just doubled checked.

OK will get DH to find me a normal extension out of the garage, and try the side by side bit, I only have a surge protection one. Just a thought, the one near the router is plugged into a surge protection one, could that be the problem?? Off to juggle plugs.

No that didn't seem to change things, will try the side by side next.
