OP, Have you ever seen a dead body? Or been present when someone died? Maybe you have a strange idea what death involves?

My Nan always said: You do not need to worry about the dead, they never hurt anyone. Its the living that do the harm.

It would not bother me that someone had died in the house, although if you are nervous about it you need to prepare for the noises when the wind blows and not confuse this with the ghosts!

It wouldn't worry me at all. My husband feels much more weirdly about death, so maybe he wouldn't be the same!

I sort of understand how you feel - I was once quite put off a flat by the fact the building had been an old people's home previously.

If you love the house, I think these feeling will pass - especially once you spend some time there.

Perhaps you can arrange another viewing and spend a little time in the room and see how it feels to you now?

Also, like someone else suggested try thinking of the previous residents as they would have been alive and happy rather then as a dead body - she will have spend much more time in that house alive then she will have dead
  • Seen dead bodies, been present when people have died - but they've been people I've been close to.

I don't have a strange idea of what death involves. I actually quite pragmatic about things. I don't discount the idea of ghosts but I've never been bothered by them - like I said, in our old place we never had any problems but the new people are reporting all sorts of goings on!

If you go back to my original post I didn't say I was nervous or worried, just that I wasn't sure how I felt about it other than sad for the family we are buying the place from.

Honestly, we'll give the place a few coats of paint and get our stuff in there and it will be difficult to even remember other people living there. I'm not being overdramatic about it. I just found out today and pondered on it for a few hours. It is also an interesting topic to hear other people's views on.

The original owner of our little cottage died here, aged almost 90. He was born here and lived here all his life as a farmworker. Strange though it sounds, I actually find it that a lovely, gentle part of the history of the house. When you think about it, so many homes must have seen deaths, even relatively newly built ones.

Apparently, the woman who owned our house, before the couple who sold it to us, died here.

That didn't bother us, nor did it bother the couple who lived here after her.

What did bother me was when I was digging the garden to plant a conifer tree, and my neighbour was chatting over the fence and telling me about the old woman's dog who was buried in the spot where I was digging!

Needless to say, I chose a different spot for my tree. :D

It's not going to change us buying the house but I don't know how I feel about it...

Someone may be trying to discourage you from buying this house. Don't dismiss the 'feeling' you have too lightly.

Whenever I go into hospital, I always ask "Has anyone died in the bed you are giving me?" If they say yes, I insist on a different bed. Fortunately I've always found that the next bed on the ward that they offer me has never held a deceased person when I ask, so it's all worked out for me.

Mind you, they do come over all strange as they answer 'No' to my enquiry about the 2nd bed......

Just reading this thread has caused a sudden chill in the room and I've pulled the curtains in case there's shadowy figure peering in
