I do believe that in order to receive ESA instead of SSP then the employer will have sent in a form saying why the OP is not entitled to SSP. This would have been investigated before an ESA award was granted so I suspect there must be another reason why SSP wasn't given by the employers.

pmlindyloo do you think its because i hadnt been at the job for long when i got signed off it was literally just under 3 weeks, i am still employed by them as they send me a payslip every month its empty but still shows im employed if that makes sense.

Was just going to upload the form myself for the OP!

OP click on the link blondbubbles has provided and scroll down. There is a list of reasons why your employer is not paying you SSP. Have a look and see if any of them apply to you.

No, nothing to do with the length of time you have been employed.

thank you very much for your reply.

im not trying to be greedy but things are very tight as they are at the moment and it would be lovely to be able to buy a buggy and a cot without worrying.

the job center didnt seem to have an answer at all so thats why im picking your brains over here ha

    thank you very much

Couldn't you use your partner's other baby's buggy and cot?

Sounds to me like reason E is why you're not getting SSP. How did you get on looking at tax calculator?

Oh and if the above doesn't apply, you will go onto income support and get a £500 surestart maternity grant if this is your firstborn, or is twins or triplets and you've only had single births already.

Doesn't this apply to the partner too? The OP says the partner has a child with their ex; so won't qualify.
