Well me and my mate could get one and use that for football matches etc. He's single. It doesn't stop him having the card.
Explain again why they can't just offer a national railcard that anyone can buy? No need to admin the old age or forces requirements, no need to deal with groups, just providing an incentive for off-peak travel to increase revenue.
Off peak dares are already cheaper. There's an incentive.

I think it's usually cheaper and more convenient to drive when you have two people or more.

If I wanted to do a weekend trip London to Edinburgh, I have to take a bus to the tube station, then tube to Euston. Obviously, for two people with luggage I would just call a minicab, minimum fare £5. About £20 if we wanted to drop off in Euston. Let us say it cost £50 for all the extras at the two ends, getting to and from the stations, for TWO people.

Conclusion, one third off makes sense for one person, but two people will probably be better off driving.
Rail travel should be easier than driving. And you've failed to factor in wear and tear on the car, which is probably more than the petrol cost.

As I live near to Kings Cross, obviously I'd just walk. When I lived near to Heathrow, I flew to EDI.

I presume you have somewhere to park the car in Edinburgh for free, and don't mind spending 10 hours of your weekend trying to avoid the other idiots on the road?

I thought about buying an apartment in St Pancras Chambers for renting out, but just think about the neighbours. Who would need to be able to hop on the Eurostar, or get to Heathrow (Piccadilly Line, Luton and Gatwick (Thameslink) at a moments notice?

    1. International Escort, $10,000 a night?

    2. !!!!! Assassin

    3. Hedge Fund Manger when the trade goes pear shaped.

    4. Accountants who embezzle client money, with a bolt hole in the Bahamas.

Regular people live near a commuter station. I don't think a person I visit would live close to Waverley station in Edinburgh, either.

I usually travel alone, so I only go by car when there's stuff to move. 15 years ago, I used to get EasyJet tickets for £27 return, Luton to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Good old days. These days, I need a ONE PERSON Railcard, not "I'll come if you are buying Railcard".

    Terms and condition

'Discounts are not valid for travel between 04:30 – 09:30 hours, Monday to Friday'

So what's the point of having this if we can't use it on a daily basis travelling to and from work. Utterly useless.

Because they don't need any more passengers on "commuter" trains - they want to get people on those same trains when they are empty during the rest of the day........................to recover the costs of having to buy those trains for people like you - "travelling to and from work" and which are sitting empty for 20 hrs a day.

So anyone know if the main booking sites picked it up yet? Thetrailine, Redspottedhanky etc?

I cant see that the Eastcoast rail website has an option to add this card - unless someone can show me differently?

If you and your mate are joined at the hip and go everywhere together, then bully for you. The only person I'm likely to spend enough time travelling with over a year though is likely to be my partner. Sure, you can get multiple cards for multiple people, but you're forking out £30 a time so you have to amortise twice the cost over more journeys for it to even begin to pay off.

Not than driving. My most common trip these days is back to see the folks - Brighton to Watford. 2 hours drive, £25ish in petrol vs. £40 by train (£33 not London), or £27 (£21 not London) as I have a network card. Naturally, I drive. If I didn't have the car, the train cost is comparable, so that's fine. But if I had to pay £40 as a single person if the Network Railcard didn't exist? I'd be replacing my car when it dies and driving every time.

My car's a piece of crap I'm driving until it dies and I won't replace it, so the cost is largely zero.

I really don't see the point of this card, I already have a Network card which allows me (alone or with up to 3 other people) to get 1/3 rd off.
BUT, that is only within the SE Network........
I assume This "Two Together" is a National Card, so can be used anywhere in the UK, that is better, but the nominated couple thing makes it too restrictive to be of any interest (to me)
What we need is a 1/3rd off National "network" card that allows off peak travel anywhere in the UK, alone or with up to 3 people.

If they gave us those then all the fares would have to rise by two thirds (as every passenger would have one)!

    Are you watching?

Click on "railcards". Click on "please select". A drop down list now shows.

The two together card is the last one on the list.
  • Is there any regulation which would prevent someone from holding a 16-25 and a Two Together railcard?
