Benefits stopped, danger of becoming homeless

she may get some housing benefit/council tax support, but would also have a non dependant deduction made from the amount awarded due to ypur grandson living with her.
for working tax credits, both income and hours worked are needed.
universal credit amount includes housing benefit and tax credits0 -
Without wishing to seem ungrateful for the advise, it is helpful, but what is most important is WHO can she turn to to get support and help to get this sorted as quickly as possible, as the longer it takes the worse the situation will be?
If depends on WHY benefits stopped. Was it because her child is now an adult?
If so then it will be 2 agencies she needs to contact.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Has she spoken to someone like the council or citizens advice bereau (CAB) ?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

The people on will be able to give you good advice but you need to provide more details. What benefits was she getting, when were they stopped and what reason was given? Does she work for 39 weeks but get paid for 52 (i.e. the 39 weeks is spread out over 52 weeks pay) or does she work for 39 weeks and get paid for 39 weeks (i.e. several weeks when she doesn't get any pay at all)?0

Perhaps you could get your daughter to sign up and post? It would be easier to get the information first hand.0

Something must have triggered off the suspension of her benefits.
One possibility is that since her son has started working this would have stopped her child tax credits and her son would now be classed as a non dependant as regards housing benefit.
Also she would only have been required to work 16 hours a week to be eligible for working tax credit.
Would the timing work for this - ie. did her son start his work a few months ago?
The good news is that her term time hours will be used for working tax credit ie the 30 hrs.
As regards the HB they will need to know how much the son is earning to make the relevant deduction. Has she told them?
The other good news is that all the benefits she is entitled to will be backdated.
In view of the length of time it is taking she can go to CAB with all her paperwork and they will chase up her awards and make sure she has given all the relevant information.
If visiting CAB is not possible then your local councillor/MP may be able to help.0 -

Unfortunately I dont have the full detail to hand, which is why I ask who she can turn to for on the ground assistance!
She doesnt get paid for 13 week AT ALL, and neither does her son, and also the hour could be even less, or more, depending on demand but this is not assessable, no holiday pay or such like, no guaranteed hours, which is where the confusion seem to be from, and if its based on the previous year, that was less hours, as she has only in December taken on the 3rd job?
The difficulty seem to be getting the authorities to understand the ACTUAL rather than ASSUMPTION? Which is why she needs someone with the financial knowledge to get this across, but who?Signature removed0 -
She has been trying to contact CAB, but has been unable to get through, and she obviously cant afford the time, at work, or to take time off to hang on to the phone for hours, so "catch 22"

Citizens Advice will give advice.
They'd help her present her case.
And DSS will listen to letters and phone calls from CAB Advisor written on her behalf.0 -
When benefit suddenly stops like this it is usually because child benefit has stopped and the claimant is treated as a single person instead of a single parent with a dependant child. The applicable amount is slashed, income disregards are slashed and tax credits cease.
How much is her rent? Does she rent privately or is she housing association? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
