I have finally managed to get on top of most if not all my problems. I managed to get a browser hijacker onto the system and still don't know how. In the end I decided to just start again.
So I reset to factory image and have managed to get all my documents transferred over through easy transfer. I have even got WLM installed and wait for it.............
All my emails and folders copied over from the old laptop:j
Do I love Windows 8.1, erm, NO but I think I can maybe get to know it better and persevere, for a while at least.0 -

I was surprised to find that I love Windows 8, didn't think I would (I clung on to XP for much longer than I should and even then, I configured it to look as much like windows 98 as possible.

I do think you're right in an earlier post - that to really get the best from Windows 8, you need a touch-screen device. I have it on a revolve touch-screen laptop that also functions as a tablet, and I love it. I do miss my little quick-launch taskbar that I had on both XP and Windows 7 but the whole Start screen serves as a quick-launch platform really.
Mine is a work laptop and I didn't have to put in any initial effort at all to set it up, and so therefore had to expend none of the blood, sweat and tears you are putting in. I just had to tweak a few things to make it look nice.
But I bet you'll grow to like it.
