MBNA/Virgin Credit Card Query

Hi,

You'll all probably be aware that Virgin cards were operated by MBNA and the recent change around where a Virgin card changed to an MBNA one bla bla bla...

Anyway. MBNA wrote to me with the standard letter saying that I may have been mis-sold etc (there is also an enclosed questionnaire with certain bits pre-filled)

From reading the main article, 'Reclaim PPI for Free' - I see step 1 gives a letter to request information on either open or closed accounts..

Now this may be a technicality but you can imagine what I might be about to ask:

What account number do I put in the letter requesting a copy of my original docs etc? (the letter they sent me has account ending xxxx - though when I seem to remember that being from the Virgin days.)

Can I just ask for the docs relating to my 'account ending xxxx' in the letter?

ALSO - who is the £1 cheque payable to? (obviously MBNA! I mean exact names on cheques...?)

Thanks.

    Sorry, one more question too:

The letter referenced in my post above is asking for a lot less info than that in the sticky post headed 'SAR Letter'

Am I better off using the longer version and getting all info together to begin with?

    Thanks

just fill in the forms and send them back. You don't need anything else, because they've already writen to you.

Yeah, you need to concentrate on your complaint reasons, SAR letters and requests for the agreement are only required where there is doubt or no proof that PPI was taken

    Taff, thanks for response.

What if I dont 100% remember? I cant find all my docs and I think it was done over the phone after I had gone through the card application. (there is mention of transcripts etc)

If you don't remember, your SAR is not going to help, it doesn't detail the way in which it was sold, it details that you paid it or not.
If you don't remember, say you don't remember.
Your potential success or failure doesn't rest on your SAR, it rests on whether they find a fault with the sale. They are already in possession of your docs, so they have all they need to make a decision. You might only need them to see if you paid it, but seeing as they've written to you, you can bet you were.

    Thanks again for replies.

I think the reason I am asking about the SAR is for the transcripts/recording. I dont remember taking the insurance though I know I have had it.

If I got the recording/transcript then I could be certain of a response..

OR is saying I dont remember as likely to get me a successful reclaim?

    Thanks

I'll be very surprised if any SAR yields any actual recordings or transcripts. FOS accepts that what would have been said would have gone according to the advisor's sales script at the time.

I've started looking through the form and filling out bits.

Can I ask, what is the relevance of:

Reason for taking out the card.
Ref to partner and their employment status etc.
Financial circumstances at the time. (mortgage, bills etc)

Also, one last thing. I logged in and saw that PPI is still being charged on my account. (ignorance on my behalf, usually just let the DD pay balance and transfer money to pay off via phone banking app so not looked at statements online)

I assume I should cancel this right away, before sending back the form?
  • keen to see how you get on with this ... I have the forms too
