hi
i have a wireless modem/router ( linksys wag54g). Although the wireless signel is good down stairs, i am only getting a weaki signeal upstairs.
Is there a way to boost the signal?
I was told by PC world that i need a linksys access point!!! that plugs in between the base unit downstairs and the imac upstairs. it picks up the wireless signal automatic and boosts it! I have tried to google this but seem to only get a wireless router/modem link.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

While the access point would probably enhance the signal.....more likely to be a fault with the router....unless the architectural design and structure of your house is interfering with the signal causing a degradation in quality....or the distance between your downstairs and upstairs is of the order of 200 metres....LOL0 -
I had the same problem. If you put in an access point, it will make your signal slightly stronger, but, it actually cuts the speed in half (which I found out)
So, I sold the access point and I bought some different aeriels for the router from https://www.amazon.co.uk for about £38 , I have the same router and its a lot better. Look on https://www.linksys.com for the aerials then go to Amazon to buy them.0 -
try placing the router on a high shelf and see it it improves0

sorry
The router is WAG354G it only has one arial connector.
Any ideas people0 -
Try re-siting the router to a high point and ensure the aerial is screwed in tightly. Also check for possible sources of interference such as DECT phones, video senders, microwaves etc. The router should be placed away from any large metal structures (eg radiators) or large electrical appliances.
You could also try re-siting the wireless adapter on your PC, or adjusting the direction of its aerial (if applicable) ensuring that it's tightly screwed in.
If above fails, try a different channel setting.0 -
you say you have an imac, just get a airport express. sorted.0

I use one of these http://www-uk.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=UK%2FLayout&cid=1140712182519&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8251960558B24
Works great in our 3 bed semi, Signal downstairs is much improved (router is at front upstairs) and we have put the range extender on the windowsill at the back of the house, means we can now get full coverage inside and also in the back garden.
They are about £50, but works very well with no loss of speed for me.0 -

i have an airport express but have no idea how to link this to my existing modem/router. i had it linked to an old modem (belkin) and it was great for the range, but someone else set this up and that was some time ago. If i could understand how to link it it would sort the problem:o0 -
best to turn off the the wireless part of the modem if possible and either plug the airport express into that if your mac as airport or get a airport extreme. open airport admin and follow the set-up guide.0
