A parking ticket - what did I do wrong?

I had a parking ticket on Friday from Cheshire East Council for parking on King Edward Road, Macclesfield. Trouble is, I can't see what I did wrong and I don't know how to go about wording the representations.

If you put in the address on google maps, you will see some parking lines (where the white van is) and a sign that says Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, 2 hours no return within 1 hour. On the map if you turn around, where the black car is parked near the chain linked fencing, that was where I was parked, the 'space' was big enough for 2 cars and I parked there. I arrived at 11:45am and was gone for just after 1:30pm. There are no signs there.

My ticket says 'Contravention Code 01 parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours, observed from 12:02 to 12:08. I have to pay £35 within 14 days or £70 within 28 days. There is an email address on the back to challenge the PCN, I just wondered if anyone could give me some thoughts. I can't see what I did wrong, I'll pay it if I am in the wrong.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

It's in a CP zone. No signs are required to support the SYL.

However, there only appears to be one CPZ sign as you approach the restricted area. AFAIK there should be two; one on each side of the road. You could argue that the sign was obscured by a larger vehicle as you turned into King Edward Road.

Worthy of an appeal on that basis if you are still within the discounted period.

  • Apparantly according to the reply I had on the forum mentioned above Every entrance into the CPZ must be signed

Check out this government website. It gives details on what your contravention code means and some information on what signage is required.

Correct and the signs must be clear and positioned correctly. In this case there is only one (on the left hand pavement) covering what is essentially a section of dual carriageway. If you were turning right, you could easily miss it especially of there was a large vehicle on your n/s. IMO, there should also be a sign on the central reservation.

Worth an appeal for inadequate signage.

  • There is actually another sign, one near Blockbuster too, same worded sign, you can see it on Google Maps, but no signage on the side of the road I was parked at all. I will appeal on the grounds of inadequate signage.
  • Someone on the other forum mentions appealing due to errors with the Notice to Owner, but I don't really understand it!

Without seeing the notice it would be hard to identify any errors, but there are formalities that must be followed.
