I am looking to replace the virgin supplied superhub as it is rubbish.
I am looking at the Belkin AC1200 I think but it is just a router.
I am after a cable modem router if anyone could recommend a good one that would be great. I want to completely replace the superhub.
Budget of £100 but could go above that if the device warrants it.
Thanks

You can't completely replace the VM Super Hub, because it contains the cable modem facility you need! You can, however, put it in "modem mode", and connect it to a wireless router which gives a much better signal than does the Super Hub.
Which router you get depends what your requirements are for a router. Have you an Enormous House? Do you need to get a signal at the far end of the back garden or in the shed? Where is the Super Hub located in relation to the rest of the rooms of the house? For easy requirements you probably don't need to spend more than £50.0

Could you recommend a router please?
 Thanks.0

You can't completely replace the Superhub as VM will only provide a service through equipment they've issued and they only supply the Superhub. You can put either model of Superhub in modem mode and use it with your own cable router.
Before anybody can recommend a specific router you need to give some idea about what you need - dual band wifi? gigabit switch? etc. etc. Something like an Asus RT-N66U offers both and can be had for ~ the £100 mark as does a Linksys WRT320N. Big savings can be made if you go secondhand or lower spec.
The usual complaint about the Superhub is poor WiFi although some people say they are unstable too. They only have very basic capabilities too although are adequate for a lot of home users. Can you define "rubbish".

I see John Gray was typing while I was checking model numbers and I've duplicated a lot of what he said. At least we're in agreement.0

Let me pose a similar question.Could you recommend a router please?
 Thanks.
I need a new car - please could you recommend one to me?
What characteristics of a router do you require? I've suggested some possibilities, and kwikbreaks has given some more technical ones. If you don't give us some idea of what you need I could simply say, "Buy a TP-Link one, because they're cheap..."0

Tenda are another cheap brand. You can get a dual band gigabit Tenda N60 for less than £40.
If it's only a question of improving the WiFi then and additional AP or wireless repeater may give a better outcome cheaper. The Superhub 2 is concurrent dual band with a gigabit switch and all that really lets it down is the limited feature set.0

when you say 'limited feature set' do you mean compared to the superhub 1? I'm getting a superhub 2 this Friday as it supposedly has an improved wireless connectivity to the first model. The only feature I found lacking in the Superhub 1 was that it did not allow you to set the D.N.S.kwikbreaks wrote: »

You mention in the first post that the SuperHub is rubbish, but what is rubbish about it?
I'm not saying for one moment they are excellent, nor am I saying they are rubbish. But by telling us the problem you're having, we might be able to help you make the SuperHub usable.
For example, if you have poor wireless connectivity (common with the SuperHub), then changing wireless channels can help. Often channels are congested and you just need to use a less congested one to get good connectivity.
But sometimes you get the odd SuperHub which wireless is completely useless. Exchanging SuperHubs can also help.
As has been said above, you cannot remove the SuperHub completely as it the cable modem is built-in to it. Nor can you buy your own cable modem equipment and use it in place of the SuperHub, as the equipment has to be provided to you by Virgin Media.
You could put the SuperHub into modem only mode and connect your own router to LAN port 1 of the SuperHub. However we will need to know what your requirements are.0

Have to say this is exactly what I did within minutes of getting the superhub! The range was only about half what I had with my previous router.0

Sorry to gate crash your post me0000 but my problem is sort of similar to yours & the guys who have responded to you really seem to know what they are talking about (unlike me)
I have a vm superhub located upstairs but require my wireless to be stronger downstairs. I have connected an Ethernet cable into the back of the vm hub & run it downstairs. I have a router which was supplied to me by Tiscali when I used them for my internet. I have plugged the other end of the Ethernet into the back of the Tiscali router downstairs and my laptop locates Tiscali in the wireless networks available and the signal strength is excellent. BUT I can't connect to it.
 Does anyone know why?0

If you'd started your own thread, I would have been able to ask whether the Tiscali router was an ADSL router (yes, it is), not a broadband router (as is needed when connected to a Super Hub which is in modem mode). The Tiscali router will put out a signal, but you'll never be able to connect to it.
See the distinction under "Need the best wireless router?" (other fine wireless router suppliers are available...)0
