If you have been unemployed for 5 years then you would not be able to receive payment for JSA as part of a couple as you will not have the NI contributions required for CB based and your partners income will be too high for any payment for income based
I dont know what CB based is. I have no idea what i`m entitled to, I`m not a greedy person, i just need to know what to do as she really wants to work, but it seems that she will be a lot worse off if she does.

As your girl friend will be working then you will not be entitled to income based JSA.

So, as a joint claim (if she works 22 hours a week) you will be eligible for :

    Child Benefit
    Child Tax Credits
    Housing Benefit
    Council Tax Support
Child Support form the father of the children (if not yours)

If your girlfriend can find another 2 hours at work to make 24 hours in total (should be relatively easy in a care home)then as a joint claim you will be eligible for:

    Child Benefit
    Working and Child Tax Credit
    Housing Benefit
    Council Tax Support
    Child Support.

Since she is working at nights then you could try finding work during the day or become a house 'husband' and she could work even more hours if possible. Lots of different scenarios possible.
Just remember, to claim working tax credits you need to do 24 hours between you with one doing at least 16 hours.

Put all the different scenarios into the calculator here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/benefits-check

to find out your entitlements ( a reasonably accurate guide.)

When you move in your girlfriend will need to notify tax credits, housing benefit and council tax support of the change of circumstances within one month of your moving in.

Thank you so much, some advice at last. What we are going to ask is that she could do an extra shift, and possibly as i have qualifications in care i could do 2 shifts a week. But if i can find any work, and i will be talking to a few employers later then I wouldnt mind just a few hours a week, although I would prefer loads more. But that last bit of advice is great, cheers.
