Hi
So during my final year of uni in the middle of my disertation my laptop died. as i had no money i got finance on a Mac. my thoughts were if i was getting finance better get something that would *supposedly* be a long term investment.
2 years later and £550 outstanding I had a slight accident... ahem.. involving said laptop and vodka. not just any vodka but gold flake vodka.
the gold flakes have got into the keyboard and are causing connections with the keys. the laptop works but the keyboard does not.
so my question is - how much to fix this problem as i cant afford the £300 excess on my home insurance?
or am i better off selling for spares and repairs but at what price??
I actually have a laptop from work which means I am at no great loss apart from my itunes, without the mac.
any advice would be great??

Depending on whether you use the macbook on the go, you could plug in a usb keyboard and that would work. COST = Around £10 or less
Obviously not great on the train or in class but would be fine for work in your room.
Apple do a wireless keyboard too - COST Around £50

Would you feel happy taking the macbook pro apart and fixing yourself or getting a friend to do it? COST for parts - around £50
I took mine apart to replace the battery and it was really easy but to get at the keyboard you pretty much have to strip it down to its component parts. Its quite straightforward but pretty daunting if you haven't done it before.
What model of mbp do you have?
Check out this video on youtube - it might be for your model and it will give you an idea whats involved.

Thanks for your help! A friend did have a look but because the keys are set into the case- sorry don't know technical terms etc. he said it needed to be done professionally. I have got a plug in keyboard but as i dont have a desk its a pain in the behind to use- so i just dont use it.Paying it all off in 2017:

Maybe a can of compressed air, gently aimed around and under the keys?0

I have a MacBook Pro and I just wish I could use it. I helped my daughter out and bought it off her thinking it would be ok for me but I can t understand it. I m used to windows. Took it to cash converters today to see how much they would give me for it £350 huh I don t think so.0

Really am not being cheeky, but have you looked at the Mac for Dummies guides to help you out? Plenty of reading on internet, so it's free. Do try and persevere for a bit.0 -

What is it that you are finding difficult? My wife is a somewhat reluctant Mac user in a house where her work Windows machine is the sole presence amongst a load of Apple, Linux and Solaris kit, and she muddles along perfectly happily.0 -

What you are talking about is auto hiding the 'dock' and its quite easy to turn this feature off
Go to the magnifying glass in the top right and click on it (this is a search utility called 'spotlight')
Type the word dock in the bar and it will bring up lots of things but one of them is a 'system preference' called 'dock'. Click on it and the preferences are shown on screen.
Uncheck the 'Automatically hide and show the dock' option and it will be there all the time.0 -
