Really! because you know if you talk to any computer repairer they will tell you that is exactly how it is not meant to be used and will overheat even faster as the fan sucks in tiny particles from your clothing.

and guess what I have looked in the shops and not found what I require, hence asking here, but I guess all I get is treated like a silly little woman by idiots who obviously know less about computers than I do given I used to repair/build them!

This idiot isn't the one with the problem, you are.

You aren't taking any of the advice offered, and think you know better, so pop along to a shop and choose one that is 'right'. You haven't looked very far if you can't find one with a dvd drive and no numeric keypad.

In a shop, you can see the vents, choose a keyboard to your liking, and see the dvd drive, you can't from an argos catalogue.

I wasn't joking. I'll send you the Toshiba Upgrade DVD if you need it.

It's just a bit overpriced. But if it is in new condition and it fits your criteria..
It's a bit glossy. Mine came with a little polish cloth. I have a slightly upgraded model, though it is still sitting in it's box as my older Toshiba laptop insists on functioning in an entirely adequate manner.

Have you considered getting a smaller laptop up to 11/13/14" which will not have the numeric keypad (unfortunately for you, no dvdrw either), and using an external dvdrw?

You could retrieve your dvdrw from your old laptop and buy a caddy for around £10. There are plenty of instructions on internet, including youtube on how to put it all together, but you probably know how to do this anyway.

Alternatively, you could buy an external dvdrw drive, but more expensive, although, I think that you'd be better off with a usb portable hard drive, and putting all your dvd's and back ups on to that, if you were splashing out there.

EDIT...There are quite a few 14" laptops with dvdrw drive if you are interested.

Hi Pixeltash, until recently I was the IT handyman for a small LLP here, the workers laptops were in use for 16 hours + every day.

For different reasons originally everyone had non business grade laptop which they use to kill at alarming rate.

When I joined I tested the business grade laptops of few leading brands. When I decided on which brand to go with, I replaced all the laptops in one go. We did not have to change any machine from there onward.
I can save you the search and name the brand and line here: HP Elitebook.

    These machines hardly ever overheat.

The 14" models downward has no numeric keypad, the touch pad is exactly in the middle, all has Dvdrw apart from the smallest. And more important these are US built to military grade and will outlast any the consumer grade laptops from China. They are expensive but represents an excellent value as a second hand purchase. oh and you can get it with a proper windows 7 copy .
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!
