Need new laptop...

But I want only two things, and it seems no-one actually makes a laptop with them :-(

I want a dvdrw drive. oh don't try and tell me how I no longer need it and it can all be done in the cloud etc. I LIKE having it for backing up, playing dvds.

I want it not to have a number specific keypad on the right hand side (or anywhere) the laptops that have this push the letter keys off centre and the touchpad to the left, which plays havoc with my touch typing and web browsing as it is all off centre for me :-(

not bothered about anything else really...

I use my laptop at home instead of a PC and I would keep using my current one until it keels over, but the A key and those around it keep playing up... oh and I could cook on the heat from underneath, despite adding feet to give it some chance of air intake!

My current laptop is less than 2 years old (but only just) HP Pavillion G6. I guess I have to accept that like most things these days a new computer is something I will have to get every couple of years, but the grumpy old woman in me says if I am spending that kind of money every 24 months then I want one that has what I want!

can anyone help?

fix the one you have, replacing a <2 yr old machine due to a sticky key is throwing money away, new keyboards if that is really what is required are £10.

Might be worth trying a wireless keyboard and a laptop cooling pad. I have Toshiba Satellite from Argos and they have what you need, but as closed says, "Save money."

Thanks for the replies, but it's a bit more than sticky keys!

I have taken it apart and cleaned it thoroughly and seen that the stupid design has nearly fried the circuitry. it has an air intake for cooling on the bottom and only tiny bumps for feet so it has no chance to take in air to cool itself :-( After cleaning it I stuck wacking great PC feet onto it and it has limped on for nearly another year.

I suspect the Toshiba Satelitte is not a current model? My previous lappie was a TS and it got me to three years (and 2 trips back to John Lewis) before dying.

My lappies are in use anything up to 16-18 hours a day every day for work and play

turn on power saving (processor power management/passive cooling), modern machines should be cool as a cucumber unless your playing a 3d game continually, mine is at 0% most of the time, result ... fan is never on/audible

if your processor is continually above 50%, backup and factory restore it.

desks aren't the best place for laptops with bottom inlets.

this one has been running hot since purchase, and as I said it is slowly fried the left side of the keyboard and who knows what else damage.

I would be thrilled to know where exactly is the best place for a laptop with a bottom intake? was I meant to operate it while it was floating in the air?

I guess from the responses what I am looking for is no longer made?

The clue is in the name.

As you aren't interesting in fixing the problem, suggest you look in the shops, there are plenty of examples of what you want.

Really! because you know if you talk to any computer repairer they will tell you that is exactly how it is not meant to be used and will overheat even faster as the fan sucks in tiny particles from your clothing.

and guess what I have looked in the shops and not found what I require, hence asking here, but I guess all I get is treated like a silly little woman by idiots who obviously know less about computers than I do given I used to repair/build them!

thanks, but the tracking pad is still off centre :-(

The amount of time I spend working with it, it has to be right :-(

There are loads of laptops with DVDRW drives.
Have a look, but you would have to check on the keyboards yourself.

Sorry link didn't work for some reason.

Have a look at save on laptops, tick for DVD in optical drives, and it lists 191 laptops.
