Does anyone know if there is a minimum contract term for BT landline option 1 (cheapest one). I need to have a bt line to move to talktalk for free international calls but talktalk told me I will have to move the line rental to them. Many thanks. (btw I am trying to contact bt but seem to be in a queue forever, hence asking on the forum)

I can't remember exactly, but when i activated my BT line, I think they they said I had to stay with them for 2 months before i could move to another provider.
I'm sure they will tell you if you give them a ring0 -
As far as I know, when I got mine done, it's 3 months, then you can migrate to TalkTalk....
PS: Make sure you know if the country you want to call is included in the TalkTalk plan, as not all are included.0 -
Thank you. The country is included and yes, I am trying to get through to BT but no joy - on hold for over 30 mins0

The minimum contract for a new line with BT Retail is one year.
If you wish to cancel the line early you would need to pay the outstanding line rental for the period or £70 (whichever is less)
The cancellation fees (and the minimum contract period for reconnections) used to be a lot less but BT changed this in May largely because of TalkTalks actions (i.e. refusing to order new lines from BT Openreach themselves and instead insisting customers get a new line via BT Retail)
There are other providers which also offer 'inclusive' international calls including Euphony and Skytalk

In your effort to get so called Free Calls from Talk Talk you could end up paying BT as much as £125 connection, and then having to pay BT the outstanding line rental for the contract period or £70 (whichever is less),to get the Talk Talk Package. So the calls would not be that free, would they.
What destination are you trying to reach? their could well be a cheaper way.0 -

Ideally, if you could provide a link, etc to it on their website.

Hi, itis 12 months whether you are a new or existing customer. I work for BT. HTHBack on slimming world after my second baby!!Lost 2 st 12 lbs after my first!Weight loss to date - 1 st0

Do you know what it is now? I've tried looking on their website but it's not v clear. It does state 12months for new line (I already knew this) and taking over a line (this is new - I assume from May) but I couldn't find any reference to reconnecting back to BT if you already had a BT landline in your name before.
Its also 12 months now (used to be 3)
The only exceptions to the 12 month/£70 rule are
- 'Customers who move home and take another BT PSTN line with a new 12 month minimum period are excluded from the early termination charges.'
or
- the line was installed/reconnected prior to May 2007 in which case the old rules applyIdeally, if you could provide a link, etc to it on their website.

coinsidence though :I've have just had tonight a lady at the door trying to get me to change to TALKTALK, pushy little thing she was !! i told her i was sure i was locked in a contract for 12mths with BT(i went back to them in Jan 07 from the postoffice). She then said 'Oh you can still change BT will only charge you £8 to get out of it' they just don't like to advertise it !!
So glad i didnt sign up !! thought i would do some research on here first. I just wonder now how many poor soles have signed up not knowing the correct facts. Heather0
