ebay advice needed

Hi all
some may remember me from another thread.. most won't so here's full story
sold something on ebay - sent it same day royal mail first signed for. never turned up said the buyer, who was/is very reasonable. So I said wait until I can get royal mail to pay up and I'll issue full refund. It's now past royal mail's time frame to complain so I did him a full refund and got on the phone this PM to royal mail
......who now tell me the parcel WAS delivered, and send me a POD. The signature is someone's , it doesn't sound like my buyer's name but could be his Dad or mate etc. What is clear, is the reference on the POD -which is the reference I have on the receipt here.
I did the refund today. I have sent the buyer (who maintains it never showed up) an image of the POD asking for him to verify
but honestly, you'd think a signed for POD is a signed for POD, is this all BS from the buyer and should I recall the refund today while I have the chance ?
thanks
Andy

If you had shown eBay the proof of delivery, they would have coughed up.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

Not necessarily, this is the known issue with signed for and one that has caught many people out.
PayPal require online tracking , they won't take details by email or in writing. So if it doesn't show online as delivered PayPal find for the buyer. However, as we all know not showing online doesn't mean it didn't arrive, so RM refuse to pay out.
Strangely enough this is one reason why standard mail can be better, RM can't turn round and say they can show it arrived, as it isn't tracked.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That's a really good point Soolin. I wish I'd thought of that before I sent 3 items signed for.0

I got caught with this many years back when I used to occasionally use what was recorded.
My claim was declined as RM said it had been delivered, but would only confirm that over the telephone, and then in a follow up letter neither of which was accepted by PayPal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. been onto royal mail - their POD said one number his address is another. from what I can pick whether he's got the goods somehow or not is now less of a problem to me. I can truthfully say to royal mail he's not got the goods because that's what I'm being told and hopefully the claim people will do the right thing.
between the lines what I think must have happened is that unbeknown to royal mail their delivery chap was a subcontractor, because has on garden leave from yodel and doing casual work, garden being a good word , rolls of the tongue effortlessly with words like yodel and hermes - but working for royal mail felt he then had to step up to the plate and actually found a house - albeit the wrong house!
think it's enough for a claim my side, and for me to be painlessly defrauded at worse his side - as I think the full refund can stand.
thanks for all your views

How did the POD have any address details?0 -
Because it had a signature and the postie had appended number to each signature and my number was wrongHow did the POD have any address details?
just as well as I've now refunded the buyer, it's getting up to 20 days ish, royal mail complaint went in, I'm pretty sure they'll refund me for posting to the wrong house, if the buyer has it, well - good on him, he's ripped me off - but hopefully it won't punish me financially if RM cough up on this technicality0 -

Well that's not proof of address though,is it?
Postie SOP is to have no address details on PODs for data protection.
So I doubt RM will recognise it0 -
not sure I'm with you custardy - the RM receipt my side had the address number and post code, the POD from royal mail had a signature and a different address appended. My buyer says he never got the goods and I refunded him
so ok he could be defrauding me but its enough of a balls up to see the POD (delivery note signed from another address) to suppose the postie delivered elsewhere, and believe my buyer and refund him
I'll take my chances with RM because it isn't open shut and if I refused to refund a buyer whom I failed to deliver to, I'd get it in the neck from ebay and not be able to sell next time
cheers

RMs system doesnt tally addresses to barcodes. (excluding Tracked)
So there is no correlation in RMs system
What your POP says is the address as far as RMs system goes0
