She wouldn't be entitled, otherwise any old lodger etc would qualify.
She would not be part of your household - would be an employee. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

Yes you claim as a family now and your entitlement is 3 bedrooms, that would'nt change if you got a 4 bedroom and a nanny as she is not part of your family.
I'm just amazed someone who needs to claim HB can afford a nanny.0 -
As the third adult is not a member of your family, I do not think that you would be entitled to the 4 bedroom rate.
In any case, would you be able to afford to pay employer's national insurance for a live-in nanny?0 -
Mind. Blown.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

My partner and I have 3 young children, and it seems that having an Ofsted registered live-in nanny would work out as a cheaper option that having all 3 in nursery.
However, we'd like to know if for housing benefit purposes this nanny would be counted as being entitled to a bedroom?
Also, would her pay be counted as household income? (which would be strange as we would pay her?)
Thanks in advance!
Before I or anyone else do any research for you can I just check something without offending you?
According to a previous thread you are a single mum with one child, a lodger and a very high salary.

Forgive me for being cynical but I do not want to spend time investigating your query to no avail.0 -
Whats the NI we would have to pay??
There's more than just NI - You would have to collect her tax and pay to HMRC, Plus employer's liability insurance. Look into things a bit deeper before deciding. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
If you employ a nanny, you would become an employer and as such would need to pay her, but also pay employers NI on top which would be 13.8% on anything over £148 per week.
So assuming she works 37.5 hours per week at £8 per hour (I suspect it would be higher) she'd earn £300 per week before deductions but it would cost you £321 per week. In case you were thinking that you could class the accommodation as part of their remuneration, that would be a taxable benefit and you'd pay the 13.8% on the value of that.
In answer to your other question your family only need a 3 bed house so that's all you'll get from HB - if you decide to have a bigger house then you'll have to foot the bill.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Obviously I understand the nanny would be an employee so is different from a dependent or non-dependent.
But where does it say in the HB regs that only blood relatives count when it comes to calculating the property size permitted under the LHA calcs?
I thought HB regs count everyone in the property and then the claimant may suffer a reduction in their HB entitlement if certain members of the household have income?0
