Could it be that the lodger became partner and she got twins in between? Maybe lost her job, got rehoused note working on her numerous businesses? Confused about the mortgage part though.0

Oops posted at the same time. Not far off the mark but not explaining HB entitlement or what happened with the mortgage. Is your partner working? If you are only part time surely you don't need a full time nanny?0

Since taking maternity my salary has reduced significantly as I am now in a part-time NMW job.
If NMW supports a nanny I guess she'd better share with the chauffer. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
If you are on NMW, how do you expect to fund a nanny on £10+ per hour?0

This post has made me think. Will I lose my 25% single person Council Tax discount now I'm employing a butler and putting him up in my spare room?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Why not explore the possibility of a nanny-share? I'm not sure whether it is still feasible, but it certainly used to be in the days before we got childcare vouchers and had to pay for all housing and childcare out of our own earnings.0

Not sure on nannies but are they OFSTED registered ?? If not then I don't think you can claim any help with the childcare element of WTC, whereas you could (dependant on circumstances) if the children were at nursery.

Starting to OS again and get life into some kind of order! :T0 -
Yes - nannies have to be OFSTED Registered before childcare/WTC can be used to part-pay nanny - but then you would find that your home is also inspected, to ensure that that premises come up to OFSTED requirements.
And the employer will still have to pay NI and deduct income tax from the nanny's wages - and pay it over to HMRC.0
