Chasing up our estate agents

Hi everyone,

Little rant I suppose!

My other half is nagging me to chase up our estate agents I spoke to them at the start of the week and I did say I would call today if they had not called me. Basically waiting for our buyer's builder to arrange to come around to look at the roof.
The point my other half is making is that it should not take them long to get a builder to call even and arrange a time to come around and look at what needs doing even if they don't come around for a week or more at least we would know when they are coming and know things are moving along!!

Our buyer is just being a bit frustrating with some things but he does know we are eager to get moved as soon as possible due to my going away for work and my other half wanting to leave her job at the right time of the month!

What's this got to do with 'chasing the agent'?

We've just had a load of storms.

As coincidence would have it, our neighbour had ridge tiles blown off last Sat/Sun overnight, and was supposed to get the roofer calling round to 'have a look' yesterday.

Aren't the builders/roofers likely to be busy visiting those who've had actual damage, rather than looking at houses on behalf of buyers?

Your buyers builder could have jobs (paying ones) coming otu of his ears , especially considering the weather we have had
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

I would call again, it can do no harm to let your EA know you are on the ball. Hopefully it will encourage your buyer to get things moving.

When we were selling at one point our buyer's buyer was being very slow and I was phoning our EA every day to see if there was any progress ( at this point it was 2 weeks after everyone else in the chain was prepared to exchange). In the end she pulled out!
  • Oh well I don't think we can go with another agent at this stage! First time of doing this and some things that seem should be easy are not!! Some things we understand we have to wait for like the searches but other things like him getting his mortgage sorted seemed to take longer than we would have if we had been in his shoes!
The thing is he had the results of the survey last Monday the 17th. I spoke to the estate agents on Thursday 20th - oh we have not heard anything so usually everything is fine - and the bloody surveyor said there was nothing to worry about when he was here! He should have said well I cant say anything!! Then on Friday 21st a different lady from the estate agent called to say what the survey had turned up with pointing on the roof and chimneys needing capping off. So she says his builder will be in touch. I call on Tuesday this week asking the EA about should I get a builder of my own as well - they were like its up to you which it is but being our first time I wanted their advice - we are paying them - oh well hey ho!
  • I suppose to quote what my other half said this morning...just bloody call them I don't care if builder is busy I just want to know when he is coming even if it is in 2 weeks!!

My OH seems to think being a dragon gets things done and sometimes it does but sometimes you need to leave things a little give people time!!

    isn't the situation your buyer's fault ?

your buyer sorts out a builder
    your buyer tells the EA
    your EA tells you
  • You mean it's up to the buyer to pull his finger out and call a builder who needs to call our estate agent to sort out a time. All seems so convoluted to me!! Feel sorry for the EA caught in the middle - us wanting to get moving asap and the buyer being a bit slow. I know things take time but some things should not take more than a few days!
