Dropping price tarrif in EE

I'm 18mo into my 24 month contract (Never buying a contract again - PAYG all the way!)

I've been using EE fine for years in my house, works that well that I didn't have to buy internet as I got about 14Mbps via FTP.

Past few weeks, signal has been !!!!. Tried getting a new SIM - friends on EE noticed it too. Tried going to EE, they weren't very helpful.

So I've caved and bought 120Mbps FiOS from Virgin. Can I 'downgrade' my contract? I'm paying £45/mo at the moment and I could essentially get by with 100 Minutes and 2GB Data. So either downgrade via a natural process which is allowed after 12/18mo or get out of my contract as they aren't providing me with adequate data?

Can't see anything on their site - I found this forum post which is hopeful -

If you are on Orange, yes, you can lower your price plan by £5, once in a contract term as long as you are halfway through. T-Mobile or EE, no you cannot lower it.

I'm tmobile, damn. Is there anyway I can get out my contract because the signal in my area has dropped so dramatically (non-existing for most of the time I'm home)?
