Threatening to put someone in a deep fat frier - you'd need to chop her up into portions first - is like saying 'I'm gonna kill you'. Highly unlikely unless she is ummm abnormally tiny.
From my experience, I would say its not a death threat at all simply slightly annoyed banter, when I worked at a swanky restaurant one of my daily tasks was to take a fax from the fishmonger to the head chef.
This simple act would often result in various things being hurled at my head, which was fine when it was a cloth or ingredient but not so fine when a large knife was chucked in my direction.
It was a very robust environment and not for sensitive types and if you wanted to survive you had to handle the missiles and banter.
I still remember the day the head chefs brother came in after winning 25k at the races, he bought his brother a pint which resulted in the most epic breakdown of anyone I have ever seen.0
