    Yes 'GUIDE' does appear in the display, I checked this morning!.
    Is it possible to re-set the timer to something more sociable?. The machine only gets used wintertime 8 - 11 in the evening, anytime outside this would be fine.

    As above, loads of Freeview devices will come on at this time to check for broadcasted software updates. No problem.
    Leave it as it is - I don't think you can change it anyway. If you don't like it disconnect the power at night.
