Which credit cards give you the credit limit at the point of application?

Options
I know the Tesco Credit Card gives you the credit limit as soon as accept your online application, however I know that others wait until you actually receive the card before telling you.

So which credit card companies tell you the credit limit straight away?

As I recall so do Asda, John Lewis & MBNA, subject to not getting a referral of course.

Speaking from experience, MBNA have given me my limits on 3 cards with them at the end of my online applications. Celtic FC, Fluid & Emirates Skywards.

Add to that list also Bank of Scotland Platinum Transfer.

I think the only one I have applied for outwith sub prime when I was alot younger is RBS. Was approved instantly but had to wait for the card to be sent out. Was a 5 figure sum however, so that might have had something to do with it as it was quite alot of credit.
  • From my experience M&S only provided the credit limit on receipt of the card. I went through the application process with MBNA and they said the same thing (credit limit to be provided with card).

I used Halifax and they gave me the credit limit immediately.

Natwest told me online - although I am a natwest customer so don't know if that makes a difference
  • Cards I've had instant limits on - Halifax, MBNA (American Airlines, Fluid, MBNA themselves, Virgin Atlantic), NatWest (Classic and YourPoints), Nationwide, Tesco.

Cards I've had to wait for the limit - Barclaycard (BC themselves and their Hilton HHonors card), Aqua (Classic and Reward), CapitalOne (Classic, Progress and Aspire World), MBNA (Virgin credit card, not Virgin Atlantic, although this was years ago, 2006 I think), Monument (hahaha remember them!?).

Can't remember any others off the top of my head. NatWest I remember said the limit both times was provisional, but the actual limit didn't differ either time.

    Halifax definitely do
  • CashPlus Credit Card. I was just accepted online via an invitation email and the credit limit was instant.
