Experiences of First Utility please
Hi all,
Im currently in the first 7 days (cooling off period) of changing over my electric and gas supply to first utility but have since done a bit of research on them after speaking with a family member and finding a particular website that had very poor reviews of them. I also found a review of them on the which website that said they weren't the best energy company but are improving.
So id like to know of anybody's experience of this energy company whether good or bad, things to look out for and best practises to do with them.
Any information would be appreciated
kind regards

I swapped to them last November and they are taking the correct direct debit on the day they say they will and the direct debits are showing up on my account. They also notified Scottish Power of the changeover meter reading which I gave to FU (and SP eventually refunded my credit) so the swap went as expected.
BUT
I cannot see my initial reading in the on-line account nor can I send them meter readings even when they ask for them. I've tried using their on-line system. E-mails, SMS and even the telephone but it just doesn't work.
I am now running an ongoing complaint which actually gets a reply from someone when I send them an e-mail and I'm giving them my readings by e-mail (with the complaint header on it), which are actually being acknowledged but still not appearing on the account.
So I haven't given up hope that it will get sorted out eventually but I'm keeping a very careful eye on my DD and making sure that it appears on the account. I shall also send the meter reading as an e-mail under the complaint banner when they ask for it. I am also saving every e-mail etc so if it all falls to pieces I'll have a complete record of it all.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

I think ill cancel my transfer as there are too many people who say they have or have had problems.

Ive been with them 2 years now. It took a few months for them to sort out the payments, they didnt set up the direct debit, so got free gas and electric for a few months. But after that all has been smooth. Readings given online and all sorted.0

Get away before its too late!
I'm in same position as Matelodave. They take my money but I get no bills and can only enter meter readings by raising a query. I have emailed them numerous times.... nothing.0 -
I can confirm that ive contacted FU and have notified them of my wish to cancel the transfer. Ive also recieved a confirmation email about the cancellation.
Thank you for the help and advice
Kind regards Mark0 -

Lucky escape Mark, hopefully that is the last you will hear from them, but I doubt it.0 -
I know people with them and they are fine, however 100% knightmare to callDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

In my experience all energy companies are OK until you start having problems.
Then they are all pretty awful.
I had an issue with First Utility when I moved out of my previous address back in October, the issue is still not resolved.
They have sent emails saying they are fine for me to pay the balance off using a DD over 6 months but then I keep getting automatically generated emails saying they are going to break into the house and fit prepayment meters, unless I pay the whole lot in the next 7 days.
Don't think the new occupiers would be very happy about that.
:rotfl:
So the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
They aren't as bad as nPower though!

i have not had a bill since Sept 13, and they have now stopped taking the DD of £108 per month, i have kept the money to one side and i have emailed them numerous times, still nothing, i am still getting supply and not (at the moment) paying for i, good deal to me

I do send a my readings each month so know my useage so no shocks
but in all seriousness they are useless, but i am not going to stress about it0
