  • Sorted ...looked up a vid on you tube and realised we needed to swap the wires over on stat connection... OOOPS hubby was adamant he had followed instructions on wiring it...was not untill we watched the vid that he could see what he needed to do . Thanks for all of your advice and help .
  • Mine worked fine for years until screen packed up.Bought new one which shows low battery only two weeks after replacing batteries(every two weeks).Tried to contact Honeywell to see if the there is a fix for this--unable to contact--absolutely useless customer support.Don't think there is a cure so will change to different manufacturer.
  • I am not amused to see that I am not alone with this problem. I have only just discovered it as we have not used it for about a year . I removed the batteries when we left the country and did not put them back in May. Four years is just not long enough for a controller. I will try and pursue it but I have two bigger fish currently frying. I dont; think any COurt would agree that a £100+ controller need only last 4 years. SoGA case methinks. thw how long have you had yours. And what have you got as a replacement?
  • Hello, My CM927 has died and I've come across these forum posts whilst googling advice. Thought I'd add my experience as I am clearly not alone and now feel totally ripped off by Honeywell.

It was installed brand new in June 2011 and has worked well. (I've had to change the batteries as you'd expect). But it has just died. Totally unresponsive. I've tried two news sets of batteries and tested them to check they aren't the issue.

After 15 minutes on hold, I finally managed to speak to someone in their customer services who has said there is nothing they can do as it is three years old. Specifically he said "usually they last [a] very long time" "we do our best to make them durable" but "it happens".

I specifically asked my boiler installer to ensure the thermostat came from a reputable brand, and as per the previous poster, think this is totally unacceptable. I can't think of another electrical product I would expect to last which hasn't like this, nor such poor customer service.

What makes it all the more frustrating is they know they have me over a barrel. If I want to change manufacturer, I have to pay an installer to come and change the relay unit on the boiler and buy a new relay unit and thermostat. Or I replace just the thermostat with another Honeywell, but take the risk this one may too die, and I'll have to fork out again in a couple of years.

I can't believe this is acceptable. Who else could I follow up with as I am not the only one, is there a manufacturing issue and they are not fit for purpose?

Whilst that customer service response is not to be enjoyed, to be fair you almost certainly did NOT buy the product from Honeywell - you'll have bought it from a system supplier or similar. So any recourse you have will be with the company you bought it from.

Looking at the CM927 product info online it gives this as the phone contact details:

Contact our dedicated consumer support line on 01344 656 200, select Option 1 and then Option 1

(The products are actually made near Motherwell in Scotland).
  • Hello, thanks for the reply. Those were indeed the contact details I used to speak to person in Honeywell Customer services (after 18 minutes on hold).

You're of course correct I didn't buy it directly from them, but the plumber's merchant has a similar view - they're very popular and gosh it's surprising it's broken, they normally last donkey's years. Would I like to buy a replacement for £125. I pushed the fact that if he was surprised it can't have been fit for purpose, but he's adamant if it's out of warranty (1 year) then there's nothing he can do aside from offer me £10 off to make it the same price as I paid 3 years ago. Which leaves me out of practical (quick!) options.

I've been doing some more digging and reports of problems are commonplace. I know the legal recourse lies with the vendor, but it's so obviously a manufacturer problem - they are just ripping off customers and it's disgraceful. I think they get away with it because the vendor base is so broad. If it was something being sold in and returned to e.g. the big 4 supermarkets, they in turn would put the pressure on the manufacturer to fix it or refuse to stock it. It's really poor form.

As you know the vendor is responsible, if you want a remedy then you need to apply more pressure on whoever sold the thing to you.

However, it does appear that you want a quick fix, in which case there is probably no point in getting you to read MSE's Consumer Rights guide.

Until such time as you, and all the other ripped off customers, actually do something about it then the manufacturers need to do nothing... they have a nice revenue stream thank you very much.
  • Hello, many thanks for the link. I'm sorry I didn't explain myself better - quick fix not because I'm not bothered, if I wasn't I wouldn't be here in the first place - but quick because I'm not going to risk burst pipes or a ridiculous gas bill once the cold really sets in. Without this pesky unit working, the heating is either full on or full off. I'm snookered.

If you need a new one I think youll find the £50 job called "Center" from Plumb Center is the same.you must have a very cold room for it to be set to 10c when out, it probably wont come on at all. PS just seen its a year old post!!
