Motorola Moto G Contact Group

Can anyone give me a step-by-step guide to creating a contact group so I can text multiple contacts at the same time?

Not used to Android and when I google instructions, they seem to be phone specific rather than OS specific. Thanks in advance.

  • Found the user guide online, cancel that. :)
  • Cancel that cancellation. I've created the Group successfully but can't choose it when creating a new text message? Anyone any ideas?

    what APP are you using?

    maybe install this app?

    .
  • None. I'm trying to send a simple MMS text to > 1 person. Doesn't require a chargeable App on a current smartphone, surely? I could do this 6 years ago on a Nokia.

On the basic 'stock' Android messaging app. that the Moto G is bundled with, you can't send texts/mms to a group. You'll have to use a different messaging app.
Personally I use Handcent - and always have - regardless of which Android phone I've had. (even used it instead of my SGS4 messaging app etc.) It's far more customiseable, and more importantly for me has the option to turn off the 'feature', whereby the stock app. will automatically turn a long text into an MMS.
Handcent is free on the play store. You basically just replace the stock with this new app etc.

You can set your groupings up in your Google account, and Handcent can work with the same groups etc.
  • Thanks Tony. Do all of the group text recipients need to have Handcent installed? If so, that's a no-goer for senior management.

This scenario is so basic and yet so antiquated? I'm gobsmacked to be honest.

No, they don't need to have it installed as well. It will send an SMS/MMS in the same way as any other app does :) (just to groups as you need LOL)

Handcent can send things via it's own data network (similar to whatsapp etc.) but you won't be using that - just the 'normal' sending functions.
  • Thanks, I'll try it tonight.
