Old Style Daily Thread Thursday 27th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Usual dash and staggering towards the weekend.

Stuffed peppers in the slow cooker for dinner, Greek salad for lunches.

DD is struggling for money so need to go and fill her freezer and cupboards at the weekend, She really does not understand how to shop and constantly asks "How did you get all that stuff for that amount?" Hmmm because I don't leave it until I run out and go to the little shop on the corner!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

  • Good morning ttftm and to all who cross/follow,
Very windy outside and absolutely throwing it down with rain.
Dd starts a new job on Monday, full time hours. She is looking forward to it. Wages are not great but at least hopefully she will be happier.
Got to phone the sixth form where other dd goes today. She has wanted to drop a subject and pick up another subject (double award in health and social instead of a single) for a while. Other students there seem to be able to go from one subject to another. Her health and social teacher has said she will have a bit of catching up to do but has got every faith in her and has said she can't see it being a problem. The teacher of the subject she wants to drop has said she can't drop it and has gone on to talk to the head of sixth form who has agreed that she can't drop it. She is getting ungraded in essays because she is finding the subject hard. All the teacher says is you are not trying hard enough. I don't know if i will get anywhere with phoning them but will try.
Dinner tonight is chicken breasts with potatoes and veg.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning Both, and all that follow

Just popping my head in as I head out the door

Its blowing a gale at the moment, hope it settles down, was like a sumeers day yesterday mad weather....

TTFTM - I wish they would teach kids basic home bugeting and skills at school, my kids just think i,m mad when I try to explain why its important, my DD would be carp on her own, she can,t manage the buget she has with next to no outgoings....

FS - good luck with school, my experience of the kids school has not been good, huge staff turnover and my kids appeared to be taught by disney films for a couple of years - I will say we have had a major change in our education system, going from 3 tier to 2 tier, and not handled well by those at the top and I think that some of the staff have suffered as much as the kids - not digging out the teachers

Anyway off to work - toodle pip.....
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • Morning all
Piddling down here today so no need to scrape the car.
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, y'days porridge at work was so thick it was piled high in the pots.
Re education, it's a nightmare, but as for schools teaching budgeting, well most of our teachers live paycheck to paycheck & can't budget for themselves.
Yesterday went well, I was called to account about the printing I'd done & the person who'd asked for it to be done incorrectly got the bo££ocking instead of me, yay.
Time I got a wriggle on.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

The wind seems to have died down for the moment but it's still wet! Yesterday was quite nice in parts, even saw the sunshine.

Seemed to spend yesterday chasing my tail both at work and at home and I think today is going to be the same. Going to see a live showing of war horse tonight at a cinema, quite looking forward to it.

Washing up to date and the house is reasonably tidy. I was going to strip some wallpaper yesterday but by the time I had caught up with everything and everyone it was 8.45 so didn't fancy starting then.

Used my new halogen oven, I think it will be quite good when I get the hang of it!

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

I went back to the dentist yesterday because of the problem with my impression. I assumed I'd have to have it done again, but the problem was just the shade of the tooth, they needed to check it again. I remember the dentist writing it down so I think he must have bad handwriting and no-one could read it :D

I've been given loads of tea and coffee, a friend of mr tru runs a biz and over-ordered, he had loads nearing their use-by date so he gave them away :D

I've been playing with yarn, I'm not one of those people who can pick out four colours and 'see' how well they go together. I have to crochet them to see how they look. Some of my choices have been interesting :D And some look nice, when I thought they'd look terrible. I'm keeping notes on what works and what doesn't. I'll carry on with that today and hopefully get another blanket finished too.

My girlies are misbehaving, three of them keep escaping and trying to dig up my onions :naughty: I've forgiven them though, they're giving me lots of eggs at the moment :D

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, absolutely horrid outside, raging wind, bucketing down with rain – been like this since sometime in the night and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon.

DH up and gone to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, veg and gravy. Dessert from the tins for those that wanted some. Dinner was a bit disjointed as DH was late home, so cooked his dinner when he got in.

Work yesterday was not too busy. Got my usual chores done when I got in. Have a list to work my way through today, won’t be too difficult as it’s so horrid outside I don’t really want to go out anyway. Will try to get everything done as I’m working Saturday so will need to spend sometime tomorrow doing cooking/baking for next week, as need to visit the outlaws and my parents Saturday afternoon after work, then Sunday we have a caravan event to attend, so no other spare time to do anything over the weekend.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

DH has just gone out the door to sit and wait at the Phlebotomy clinic for his Warfarin blood test.

The doors open at 8.30 but the queue seems to start at dawn as the Warf tests are done on strict days/times but first come, first served. Last time he was 5 minutes late and was turned away, then had the snotty letter for "missing" a test: he was late as he had spend half an hour trying to find a parking space. The Uni is right bedside the hospital, and the students fill the free car park.

MORE ironing today, and a bit of mending too. I have now lost 14lbs, so my old summer clothes fit - very MSE but some have definitely seen better days!

Dinner tonight is SW butcher sausage, bacon, mushroom, egg & tomato. I hope to make the SW "cake" from eggs and quark - but somebody said it was more like sweet omelette!

Time for a cup of tea to warm me up.

Have the best day you can x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
