    afternoon,

    spending all done for the day!

    £79 spa day (also paid for friends but she will give me next month)
    £10 amazon card for nana bday (free postage)- out of present fund
    £9.95 shower gel from lush- mum mothers day - also present fund
    18p in wilkos for bits and bobs (found an unopened own brand ink cartridge when decluttering and have already tried one which didnt work in my printer so returned it and used to buy the stuff i needed)

    went into halifax to enquire about cash back on clarity credit card as been told you get £5pm if you spend over £300 and i have not had it :( told to ring them so i rang (obv using say no to 0840 number ;) ) and they told me you need current acc as well which i now have. he said they needed to switch my credit card to the reward version but i should still get £5 from dec :T

    the condition seems to be that you need to have £300 showing on your statement and pay in full by due date. my problem is that i buy most things on cc then transfer money straight to cc to pay off. i do this because if i bought on debit card it takes a few days to update whereas a transfer is instant and i like to see an accurate balance in bank. i do it instantly so i know where im at. but that means i generally dont owe anything when they produce my statement. going to open another instant savings with them and put the money for the cc bill in there and then will pay when statement ready so i can get the £5! i dont always spend £300 as i dont spend that much in a typical month but when i buy stuff like my freezer i want to get it. spent over £300 in jan as booked the hol but paid straight off so no £5 :(

    i like this cc as its free to use and withdraw cash abroad and also has excellent exchange rate so fact i can get cash back is a bonus :beer:

    Hi everyone, great to hear what is going on with everyone. Babies on the way, house moves and everything! Here are my stats up to yesterday.

    Walk to work 1/4;
    SFD 1/15;
    Exercise 2/12;
    Groceries 16.95/240;
    Meat free days 1/14;
    Lunch to work 2/16;
    Food Bank 0/8;

    Only one SFD and today won't be one as I had a call earlier to say my glasses are ready for collection. I have re-used the old lenses to save a bit on them but they will still be expensive. Exercise is going well and I topped up on fresh stuff for lunches on Sunday afternoon at Lidl so that was ok.

    We are off up to the lakes this weekend on a cheap deal £99 for two nights B&B in a country house hotel for me and DH. Can't wait. I'm looking forward to some time outdoors, I spend far too much of my life in front of a screen.

    My meat-free target is just my own personal target. I eat fish, but I don't think meat is really good for me and I'm trying to be sort of semi-veggie if you know what I mean. I'll keep trying and maybe one day I'll be able to rustle up something wonderful with chick peas or butter beans, you never know. ;)

    I didn't get round to donating anything to the food bank last month so I'll pop into Wilko later to get some toiletries and things and do last month and this month in one go. I can manage £8 I think. I have a friend who runs a project on a local housing estate which helps a lot of low-income families. She helps with parenting skills, etc so I usually give the goods to her. I gave her three tins of biscuits at Christmas and she was so grateful that her families could have some treats she nearly cried. It is such a shame that schools don't teach parenting skills, cooking, financial awareness, etc. because some people don't have parents who can help them with these sorts of things. They start off at a disadvantage so from day 1 it is an uphill struggle. I remember learning how to make an apple crumble, bath a doll and iron a pillowcase. I suppose these things would be seen as 'old fashioned' now.

    Every credit to you NSK on your Money Mentoring Course. I hope you can pass on some of your enthusiasm to your prospective pupils and help them to get themselves on a level footing. Sadly it will probably be to people who are already in a pickle, not preventing people from going there in the first place. Still, we have to make mistakes to learn from them.

    I made vegetable soup on Sunday night from one of those vegetable soup packs. It had lots of green leeks in it along with carrots, turnips and potatoes. When I blended it up, it resembled a sort of khaki sludge but it tastes ok. I had it last night for tea with a barm cake and the last slice of death by chocolate birthday cake that I made for my step-son on Saturday. The soup was super-health but the cake tipped the scales back for sure. Lush but I could feel my arteries moaning!

    Beautiful day here. Its so good to see a bit of daylight after work again, it makes me feel like doing things. Kitchen decluttering will have to wait a while but I plan to sort out the bits and bobs cupboard. It has everything from light bulbs to birthday candles, tippex, batteries, cat flea treatment, etc. etc. I'm sure we all have one.

    Plod on torties. :)

    SFD Target: 16 - I managed 12 last month and there are 3 extra days in March...plus I've added an extra just for good measure!

    Misc Budget: The usual £100. I do try and come in under this each month, but like to have it there just in case anything comes up. Hopefully, I'll have at least £10 spare come 31 March :)

    Food budget: £100. I was tempted to raise this to £120 as it's the one budget I struggle with. I eat a clean vegan diet and it's so expensive! I'll do my best to keep it under £100 this month. I MUST get my freezer fixed though as batch cooking will definitely help!

    Declutter: I have a bunch of stuff to ebay/charity shop and dump! What I never have though is time! Conscious effort will be made this month to get rid of as much as I can!!

    I've got into the habit of adding a few extra bits for the food bank when I visit the supermarket. I'll maybe continue this and add £3 of toiletries to it too. Just a quick question, I have a real problem with junk food and sugary 'treats', not to mention my aversion to animal products. Am I trying to impose my views on others by only buying non-junk vegan food for the food bank? I generally buy rice, pasta, lentils, beans etc. Likewise with toiletries, I do my best to use chemical free vegan products, generally with more expensive ingredients and not tested on animals. I'd never make a judgement on what anyone else does (I hate it when people try to explain why they eat meat when I mention I'm vegan. I only tell people because it's relevant to the conversation or because we're about to chose a place to eat, but I feel that people think I'm judging them - I'd never do that!!!). Anyway, I'm sure I can buy some sanitary towels or something with my £3, but just wondered if anyone else has similar views/ethical dilemmas?!!

    I spent the last few days with a friend with a broken wrist, helping her with everyday household tasks - can that count as my favour? It was fun, and I didn't hesitate to offer, so it didn't really feel like a favour. Hmm, maybe I should find another favour to do this month? There must be someone that needs help...

    So, all I have to declare so far is 3 SFDs :) Hoping for another today, but I'm running low on everything and a food shop will need to be done soon!

    Currently still have all my food budget and all my Misc budget. march is not too bad so far....

    Afternoon everyone.

    So today was the first spend day of the month and it wasn't too horrific (I think).

    Haven't counted it in the budget as it was the dregs of last months budget. (£1.20 for airport parking and £5.00 on 12 tins of soup).
    :)

    This month we are attempting to do the envelope thing... so we have £110 in an envelope for shopping. (I know budget was meant to be £109 but I don't really like weird numbers like that).
    :embarasse

    Pots were also filled today, well with my half anyways. That gives us £149 in one pot and £529 in the other.
    :j

    OH is away on his stag do... so I am hanging out with my mum for the week (free food!!!!).
    ;)

    Hope everyone is doing well. Keep plodding on torties.
    Hugs.
