XLS files are Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, do you have this installed?0

Yes and It's worked ok in the past. I can use Excel to create a document but I can't open these Excel files.
Thanks0 -
Can you open any other xls file by double clicking on it?

Do you get any specific error when you try to open them?
What version of Excel do you have?
What if you open Excel first then open the file from within Excel?
Are these actually XLSX files rather than XLS files?0 -
Sorry, they are xlsx and it says Windows can't open these files. I used them last year. My version of Excel is 2000. I'm running XP
Thanks0 -
They have been opened and saved with a later version of Excel at some point. Can you open them from the same computer as previously edited them and then use the option to save as xls files instead of xlsx?
Edit:
Failing that there is a compatibility pack you can install. Details at:

LibreOffice and OpenOffice will both open all the new format files, including xlsx - for free.0

Many thanks. I'll give them a try tomorrow.0

Many thanks. Downloaded Open Office and it's working fine. Also tried Excel Viewer. It opened the file but I couldn't see any means of saving it. No save or file button.
Thanks again0
