BT Infinity speeds and switching to TalkTalk

Been with BT inifinity for two years now, the fastest download speed we have achieved to date is 14MB. I am therefore thinking of going elswhere as I am paying crazy money for the privledge
TalkTalk are offreing a good package at the minute with speeds of up to 16MB. Do you think my speeds would be badly affected if I go back to ADSL from fibre, considering the firbre speeds I am getting are useless. FWIW I live 100 yds from the BT exchange so you would think we would be getting decent speeds.
Really tempted by Talktalk as my mobile phone contracts for my family are also up for renewal and they are offering contracts for £3.75 per month for existing customers. I am just worried that I wont know what speeds we can get until I am in a contract at which point it is too late.

As long as TalkTalk have LLU equipment at your exchange (check here) then no reason why you can't get around 20 meg on ADSL2+ if you live within 100 yards of the exchange.0

Have BT said why your speed is so poor ??0

If you're 100 yards from the exchange you should probably be getting better speeds than 14Mb on Infinity!
Have you raised the issue with BT??0 -

Thanks for that, just checked and they do have LLU installed
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:- BT Wholesale ADSL
- BT Wholesale ADSL Max
- BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
- BT FTTC
- TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
- Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU

The fact that you are 100yds from the exchange doesn't mean that your cabling goes straight there. It probably disappears down the street in the opposite direction and then gets connected to one or more service/distribution cabinets which could be a lot further away than you think.
You might not even be served directly by the exchange but via a remote subscriber unit which is more than likely if you've got infinityNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
14Mbps is not called Infinity. The speeds not high enough. So its called super fast BB. Have BT said why the speed is so low? And have you asked them to look into it?0

I live several miles from the exchange and more than 100 yards from my local box. I get over 70mb.
Are you testing the speed over wifi? What speed tests have you done?
Tried the thinkbroadband one?

I have been with TalkTalk since it was Tiscali. I get a fairly trouble free service. I have heard from the TalkTalk Members Forum that the process of changing over from BT to TT can be a bit fraught. TT also have a poor reputation for customer service.
However I have found the service to operate reliably and it is very good value.0
