Help - PC Won't Connect to Router (BT) SOLVED
Comments

Are you entering the password required for the new router?
Yes I am. 100%
New router arrived, new router fitted (apparently the old one won't work with the new system) .... and new password sitting in front of me here.
It's the same password as I used on this laptop that is connecting, that I am typing on right now.0 -

On the BT Hub 5 you'll find the network name (SSID) and Password (wireless key) on the Hub settings card on the back. This, and other information, is also displayed on a label underneath the Hub. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I think I'm going to have to hardwire it with the ethernet and just accept that's what happens......0

Are these USB WiFi dongles, or mobile internet dongles? If the latter, I don't think they'll help - they'll be looking to connect to a 3G connection and route the internet that way. Unless they're cleverer than I thought, or I've got the wrong end of what they are.0 -

Might just hardwire... it can go down the back of the sofa OK0 -
If they're mobile dongles I doubt it will help. If you can connect via cable you might as well - it will be faster and probably more reliable.0

I spoke to BT ... unfortunately it was BT in Bangalore by the sounds of him, so I only understood 10% of what he said.
Having decided, from above, that my wireless card probably isn't up to it, his advice was that I should upgrade my PC. pfft, that won't be happening!
And, on the dongle, I need an AC something wifi enabled dongle.....
So, for now I'll stay hard wired.
Cheers for letting me realise what the underlying issue is.
All the best.0 -

All the best.
You don't need an AC spec dongle! You can change the wireless mode to suit your old dongle.
Although there are different standards of wireless it shouldn't really matter. With the 2.4GHz band, the is automatically set to "mixed mode" (802.11b/g/n), so that it will pick up any wireless adapter. However, some older adapters ('b' or 'g' types) might not work so well when the Hub is in this mixed mode, in which case it might help to change the wireless mode.
If you change the mode, you'll still benefit from the improved wireless range of your Hub. But if you later connect an 'n' wireless dual band adapter you should move back to the b/g/n mode to get the best results.
Here's how to change your wireless mode:
1. Open your web browser on a device connected to the Hub and type in http://bthomehub.home. This will open the Hub Manager
2. Click on the Settings tab.
3. Enter the Hub's admin password. You'll find this on the settings card on the back of the Hub. Click on OK
4. Click on Advanced Settings, then click on Continue to Advanced Settings
5. Click on the Wireless menu option. Choose "2.4 GHz"
6. Using the drop-down menu, change the wireless interface type to "802.11 b/g"
7. Click Apply, then Yes to confirm
8. You can now try to set up a wireless connection between the device and your Hub:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
