Companies shooting themselves in the foot via email

Why do some companies shoot themselves in the foot by sending email bulletins far too frequently, causing customers to unsubscribe to get a bit of peace?
Maplins is the latest.
I allowed emails when I ordered something, recently, only to have them email me every **** day.
If they are generating emails at that rate they should at least give people the option to get a weekly digest (the offers are not 'one day only').
They became such a irritation that I've now unsubscribed but I would have been quite interested to see the offers if the emails came in at a reasonable rate.
This is not the first time I've had to unsubscribe from emails that might have prompted me to buy something had I not had to cancel them because of their absurd frequency.

Yup I've unsubscribed to quite a few for sending daily emails.
Amazon are the worst though, sending emails advertising THE THINGS I HAVE JUST BEEN LOOKING AT!
There's probably some way of turning them off but i can't be bothered looking.Out on blue six..

Yes, Amazon are awful for this, several emails a day, "hi Mrs X, are you still searching for Y"
NO! You know I'm bloody not because I already bought one. From you!!! Sod off!0 -
I don't sign up to anything like that, I just check HUKD each day instead and let someone else sort the wheat from the chaff for me!0

DFS is a great example of this. I ordered a sofa for my sister last year. As I was the customer in DFS reasoning because I purchased the sofa, ever since I've been plagued constantly with guess what, emails about sofas! Why would they think anyone wants another sofa after having just had one a few months ago?

If I ever purchase something instore and they ask for my email address I just tell them that they don't need it to complete the transaction so they can't have it.
Same applies if they ask for my phone number.0 -

Very wise. But that's not what this thread is about.
This is about companies where you want to see their offers from time to time but who make pests of themselves by emailing you daily or almost daily, thus causing you to unsubscribe. Hence the reference to "shooting themselves in the foot".0 -
Go-Outdoors. Approx every 2 days with some sale or other. Do they ever have a day without a sale?
The silly thing is, You get the email then a day or 2 later the leaflets drop through the letterbox with the same deals.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Exactly.
I used a hotel group on rare occasion due to some good offers but it got silly with the emails, how many times do they think I need a hotel within every week of the year?
Honda were as bad, like I am buying a new car twice a week, not to mention Debenhams, Villa Plus and many more gone from my main email.
Tassimo shop huh! how much coffee do they think I drink
What I do now is keep a spare yahoo mail account that I don't check and give out that address for newsletters and offers. Then if I want a deal I go look at the recent relevant emails for offers.
Don't care what these companies have to say unless its code with a % off after it, that gets my interest!0 -

My post is directly after LutonGirl's post. Does her post suggest she signed up for DFS emails?
I appreciate my reply was not directly to the thread OP, but it responded to a post IN the thread. If she didn't want the emails, she shouldn't have given them her email address. (Or read what's being signed up for, and tick/untick as necessary the option that subscribes you to an email list).0 -

Yes indeed! I think it was Richard Wiseman who once said that he gets emails recommending that he buys his own books! :rotfl:0
