Are virginmedia phone numbers portable?

I am about to threaten virginmedia with leaving but only as a ruse to getting a better deal however if they don't make an effort I might actually follow through. The main stumbling block to actually switching elsewhere is that for many years I have thought that you could not take your cable phone number with you. Is that still the case or could I use move my virginmedia phone number to a bt line?

Yes, you should be able to.

I work in number portability and we have porting set up with Virginmedia.

I ported a BT number into VM then back out again to Vonage.

It is down to the recipient of the number whether or not they can/will accept it.
