in Water bills
Hi
It is 3 of us jointly responsible for the Thameswater account.
I know it is possible to have 2 names - but can we have all 3 of us on the bill?
Thanks
Chris

No idea. But since all the occupants are jointly and severally liable (not just jointly), does it really make any difference?
If this is a student house or similar, it won't mean that they only pursue you for a one third share. They're not interested in 3rd party disputes among occupiers and will pursue you for the full amount owing. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I second the above.
Occupants A and B say they gave their share of the bill to occupant C.
However Occupant C denies this(and had moved to Hong Kong halfway through the billing period) and says he gave his share to Occupant A.
Who do the water company chase?
If one of you doesn't pay the bill in full, they pass the disputed bill to a Debt Collection Agency(DCA) who chase whoever is easiest to trace.
The Occupants need to go to a small claims court to sort out liability - and the person in Hong Kong won't pay anyway!
Same applies to gas/electricity bills, rent and Council tax(if payable)0 -

I assume the one who is left out of the bill has more chances of not being involved with any dispute, issues etc. So nobody wants to be on the bill.
That is why I thought we could ALL be on the bill, to avoid any discussion.
Is there anything special about the number 2? If 2 can be on the bill why not 3?
Thanks

No. The water co. will chase whoever they can find.If not the people named on the bill, they'll get the info from the LL about who occupied during the unpaid period, whether they were on the bill or not.
But if you really want an answer to this, then a quick call to TW will provide it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Why not 27 people on the on the bill? - including a few who have never even visited your address, let alone lived there;)
I assume that 'The Billing Computer' has a problem with more than 2 people??
There have been several cases reported on MSE where the bill was in the sole name of a foreign student, who went home without the bill being paid.
That didn't stop a DCA chasing other people who lived at the property.0
